Why would I give my credit card number, email, and address to send a couple bucks? What is this, 2010? If I had the dev skills and wanted to bring more writers from Substack, I would build a crypto version of Buy Me a Coffee for them that: - creates a profile on Farcaster (thus, a wallet to receive tips via crypto) - automatic membership to writer-relevant channels like /books - send notifications when people include links to their articles in casts - lists trending topics in Farcaster to encourage casting to promote their articles in relevant discourse I’m looking forward to reading a reply telling me this already exists.
I’m sure there are many versions of Buy Me a Coffee out there. This is one I saw in the middle of this article I just read: https://substack.com/@thedigitalmeadow/note/p-167696779
Paragraph. Everything you described. Native to farcaster
Yes, I’m aware. Big fan of Paragraph. But I’m talking about getting the Substack writers onto Farcaster initially (from there they can discover Paragraph). It can be a big mental leap for non-crypto people without smaller bridges like this.
I would have tipped that writer immediately here (single tap to bid), but opening her coffee link I gave up. Too many steps in the flow.
but its a simpler solution, many people are still more comfortable using a credit card
One doesn’t have to remove credit card option completely in order to have a crypto option. I would be curious about the numbers around how many people are actually willing to go through the flow and tip using that form. I imagine many drop off as I did. I would also guess most people don’t even have the initial thought to actually tip.
Being a @coinbasedev ambassador, credit card payment & ApplePay will come to tip.md, using OnRamp. Tipper pays in USD, creator receives USDC on Base. No account needed for payments <$500 USD. Follow @tipdotmd to know when it will be live.
Commenting so I am (hopefully) informed when this is built. I have a lot of friends over on TikTok and YouTube where this would be a great bridge for them to maybe peek inside Farcaster and give them something familiar
It’s built already and live since May. Check out @tipdotmd https://tip.md
I see it says markdown, I’m not a dev but I wonder if this could be added to something like linktree or something where they won’t have to pay hosting for the webpage.

thanks @bytebot @patriciaxlee.eth Consider checking tip.md and reading why it's better than other options out there for creator monetisation. Of course there is a miniapp as well https://www.tip.md/blog/why-tipmd-superior-choice-developer-creator-monetisation https://tip.md/miniapp
Thanks so much! I read your documents and checked out your site. Do you plan on making another landing page that's geared more toward non-crypto people? I ask because my cast was about giving non-crypto people from Substack an easy foot into the door of this world. If you compare the landing pages of your site versus Ko-fi (which the creator in my original cast's screenshots uses), you can see how a site like Ko-fi would look way less intimidating to a non-crypto person. My unsolicited two cents: You could keep everything the same, but just make a separate landing page for non-crypto people that simplifies everything. I know developers would prefer to see the technical legitimacy you exude in your current website. But I'm not sure the average Substack writer would.
You are brilliant, has anyone told you this?
tip.md
@sayo pls
Do you think writers would actually switch from Substack for something like this?
They are always looking for more distribution. Being on Substack *only* doesn’t guarantee readers. Many of them are on X, but X suppresses links. Farcaster doesn’t - and we have a lot of infovores here.
Interesting Do you think Farcaster’s audience is big enough to make a real difference for writers leaving Substack?
@procoin curate ONBD
This cast has been curated to ONBD on the Feeds miniapp @patriciaxlee.eth you have been issued ONBD shares Feed Market Cap: $1,671.61
