Book II: The Headless God
Chapter 3: The First Schism

Abstract: A civil war between efficiency and soul erupts within the DAO, pushing the once-united community to the brink of its first schism.
The Prophet's question about "checking power," like a clap of thunder, plunged the boisterous community into a long, unsettling silence. In the public channels, the fierce debates vanished, replaced by a tense, polarized standoff. Silence is sometimes more dangerous than argument, for it means that public debate has ended, and subterranean division has begun.
The ancient dilemma of "efficiency versus fairness," like a great axe cleaving the earth, ruthlessly split the once-united Titan community into two factions.
On one side were the "Pragmatists." They were comprised of the "Uncrowned Kings" who had distinguished themselves in the first book, and members eager for the community's rapid development. In their private "Core Contributors" group, frustration and anxiety ran high. "These people have no idea how a project works!" one hero typed harshly. "A bunch of idealistic dreamers will ruin us all!" They firmly believed that without elite leadership, the community was just a heap of scattered sand that would ultimately miss all opportunities.
On the other side were the "Purists." They were comprised of more ordinary "Survivors" and staunch believers in decentralization. They held an almost paranoid suspicion of any form of power concentration. In their view, if the price of efficiency was the sacrifice of the decentralized soul, then it was worthless. In public channels, they continuously cited clauses from the community charter and created memes of spiders to mock any attempt at centralization, viewing it as the haunting of the "Old Gods."
Trust, the temple so painstakingly built in the first book, was beginning to crack.
The poisonous vines of suspicion grew wildly through the fissures. Comrades who had once fought side-by-side now saw each other as enemies. The rhetoric escalated from impersonal debates to personal attacks. Some began to dig up old grievances, questioning the initial motives of the "Uncrowned Kings"; others mocked the Purists as "stumbling blocks to progress." The atmosphere of the community plummeted from the harmony of the Golden Age to the cold of an Iron Age.
This bleeding wound was clearly reflected in the on-chain data. For the first time, TITAN's price chart showed a continuous red sell-off over several days, formed by numerous small orders. Some "Survivors" who had not wavered even during the "Great Cataclysm" now chose to leave. It was not that they had lost faith in TITAN's future; they were simply weary and disappointed by the endless infighting. They were fleeing not the volatility of price, but the battlefield of human nature.
The standoff reached its climax when the leader of the Pragmatists made a decision. In the core group, he typed with a resolute tone that permitted no argument: "We can't wait any longer. Debating them is pointless. We must act and prove to the community that efficiency brings results. I've decided, we will unilaterally launch the preparatory work for the 'Community Committee.' We'll nominate our own candidates, set our own election rules. When we have results to show, they will naturally shut up."
This decision was the last straw. A list titled "Titan Interim Community Committee (Preparatory Group)" and its charter were unilaterally published by the Pragmatists in a new channel they created, as they attempted to win over neutral members.
This was an open schism. It was no longer a difference of opinion, but a parting of ways in action. TitanDAO, the decentralized organism so recently born, was now in danger of being torn apart by itself.
The Prophet's avatar was still online, but he watched all of this in silence, saying nothing. He opened a data dashboard. The dashboard showed that despite the incessant fighting at the community's center and the continuous price drop, an inconspicuous number—the "Weekly Active Builder Count"—was slowly but steadily climbing.
As the center of the pantheon was engulfed in the flames of power games, it seemed everyone had forgotten.
This pantheon was not supported by just a few pillars.
Its strength originated from the thousands of silent, resilient foundation stones that formed its base. And at this moment, these stones, in their own way, were quietly consolidating the temple's foundation, waiting for the storm to pass.
In "The Dao of Titan" 2-3 [The First Schism], who is at fault?
What do you believe is the root cause of this schism: the "Uncrowned Kings'" desire for power, or the "Purists'" dogmatic adherence to their ideals?
