From our Screen

Felix Lee shares Duolingo’s gamification design playbook. This matters because (a) Duolingo isn’t in Web3 but is excelling in gamification, and (b) when Duolingo started, they didn’t want to charge money as their target audience was in low-income countries. It felt wrong. However, without public goods funding, they needed to adapt by showing ads and creating a premium subscription.

TogetherCrew Update

Exclusive Content: How to Build a Community with Addigator and Cryon

In October, we had the pleasure of talking with Addigator (Rari, PizzaDAO) and Cryon (Talus Network) about community building.

Rari is the chain for creators, embedding royalties on the node level to guarantee royalty payments. It's a secure, low-cost, decentralized Ethereum L3 blockchain powered by Arbitrum.

Talus Network is a high-throughput L1 blockchain that integrates artificial intelligence with blockchain technology to facilitate decentralized, on-chain smart agents.

Key Takeaways:

🔹 Addigator (Rari): Emphasizes the importance of community members not being solely motivated by tokens. Focus on enhancing experiences with non-tokenized elements. Organize events that encourage participation without financial incentives, reinforcing true engagement goes deeper than transactions. For inspiration, look outside Web3 (e.g., Duolingo, sports clubs).

🔹 Cryon (Talus): Stresses that fun is essential to community building. Talus hosts regular games and events to keep members engaged and foster collaboration. Encourage your community to brainstorm ideas for activities to foster involvement.

🔹 Addigator (Rari): The Rari community is a mix of members: delegators, creators, and builders. As a community manager, know your groups. Rari launched an educational campaign teaching creators about DeFi, meeting them where they are. They also have an excellent set of delegators who know how to self-organize.

🔹 Cryon (Talus): Activating members is a core challenge for community managers. Engagement is key, but you can't have an active community without knowing who your members are. Talk to them, get feedback, and use it to enhance activities. Don’t assume you know it all. Be proactive—talk and listen.
