Dear friends,
As August comes to a close, we take a moment to reflect. This month, we shined a light on Appendix Cancer Awareness — a rare cancer that reminds us no diagnosis is too uncommon to matter. Rare cancers can often be overlooked, but for the warriors and families living through them, they are life-changing.
August also marked National Cancer Support Month. Support is not always visible, but it is essential. It is the steady hand of a caregiver, the strength of a friend who listens, the compassion of communities who stand beside warriors in their hardest moments.
Now, as we turn the page, we look toward September — one of the most important months in the cancer awareness calendar. It is a month where multiple ribbons come together, each carrying its own message of urgency and hope.
The gold ribbon represents the preciousness of children. Each year, more than 400,000 children worldwide are diagnosed with cancer. Behind every number is a story — a child whose life is interrupted by hospital visits, a family navigating uncertainty, and a community holding onto hope.
While childhood cancer remains the leading cause of death by disease among children, survival rates have improved over recent decades thanks to research, advocacy, and awareness. This month, we honor these young warriors and recommit to the fight for brighter futures.
September also shines a light on blood cancers: leukemia, lymphoma, and myeloma. These cancers affect both children and adults. Their ribbons — orange, red, and burgundy — remind us that research has already transformed outcomes for many patients through bone marrow transplants, immunotherapy, and new targeted treatments. But the journey continues, and awareness keeps momentum alive.
Represented by the light blue ribbon, prostate cancer is the second most common cancer in men worldwide. Too often, men are reluctant to discuss their health or seek early screening. Awareness campaigns encourage open conversations, regular check-ups, and timely treatment — all of which save lives.
The teal, pink, and blue ribbon represents thyroid cancer, one of the fastest-growing cancer diagnoses in recent decades. While many cases are highly treatable when detected early, raising awareness helps ensure people recognize symptoms, seek medical advice, and access care without delay.
The peach ribbon represents uterine cancer, a disease that is often under-discussed. Symptoms like unusual bleeding or pelvic pain are too often ignored or dismissed. Awareness empowers women to listen to their bodies, advocate for themselves, and pursue timely medical evaluation.
Finally, the teal ribbon calls attention to ovarian cancer. Because early symptoms are vague — bloating, fatigue, or abdominal discomfort — ovarian cancer is often diagnosed late. Greater awareness and increased research funding are critical for improving survival outcomes.
September reminds us that behind every ribbon is a human being, a family, and a story of resilience. Each color we see is more than awareness — it is a call to action.
At Tutti Cancer Warriors, we will continue to share stories, facts, and resources throughout the month. Our mission is simple: to ensure that no warrior feels invisible, and that awareness leads to understanding, advocacy, and impact.
Together, let’s make September shine — in gold, teal, blue, peach, and beyond.
