In this series, we shine a light on the uniquely talented creators that have joined the Uptick Network. Introducing the artists, showcasing their work, and interviewing them on the thought process behind their art, their experience as a creator, and their journey into this new and exciting space. This is the first in many series to come.

Akuza Ape (otherwise known as Bensaad Yacine!) is a self-taught artist hailing from Algeria. Bensaad, in case you hadn’t noticed is a huge fan of the Anime genre, which shines through his pop-culture referenced designs. Fusing his animal of choice (the ape!) into a wide array of interesting, cute and quite frankly, badass designs. A new collection on the block, but it’s fast gaining steam in the community.
We caught up with Yacine to discuss his artwork, those pop culture references, designing as a creative outlet, and the wider NFT space!

The idea of the name came from ‘Wizy Akuza’, which is a collection from digital illustrator ‘Ceasar Ian Muyuela’. I follow his artwork, especially pieces related to anime. From this point of view , I got the idea of Akuza Apes which is an anime monkey!

I’m from Algeria (or the country of one and a half million martyrs.) Algeria is a big country with a long history and diverse culture. These factors affect the arts in general. As for me, they affect me in a way that makes me always strive to give the best in this domain.

I started drawing during childhood as a hobby, by imitating the animations I saw at the time on television, and I also found I had a skill for drawing paintings.

All my inspiration comes from anime and movies. Also, reading manga helps me discover new characters that I can include in my collection.

I consider it the first way to get out of many things and completely void the mind. I do not associate it with any other mood. I paint all the time and under any circumstances. It helps me a lot in getting through a lot of things. It also helps in expressing myself.

This is my first collection in the NFT space. I will work to give my best, and I’m also planning giveaways and donations to charities in the near future, as I have always wanted to do something that contributes to improving the conditions of people who need help.

Demon Slayer — I love it because the story and the drawing is so good, as well as the character of Tanjiro, who helps people and his love for his sister despite her transformation into a demon.

At first, I discovered the cryptocurrency market two years ago and did my research regarding investing in this domain. Then I came across the word ‘NFT’ when Beeple sold his art for about $6 million. From there, I worked to learn more about the NFT space until I found the Uptick platform, which supported me in a way I did not expect.

I see more development, especially in this domain, and I see that it will have more uses in daily life. As for the community, it supports all artists. As for artists and developers, they always strive to give their best.

When I start drawing an Akuza, I strive to perfect it because of my love for drawing and anime. These two are the reasons for changing my mood for the better.

I draw my Akuza Apes on my tablet “ Galaxy Tab A6 “ through an application called ‘MediBang Paint.’

I love watching Anime. My favorite anime is ‘Kimetsu no Yaiba’. I also love raising animals, especially rabbits and cats.
