Aloha, welcome to Uqbar’s weekly rollup. Every Monday we’ll provide you with exciting updates on everything Uqbar: dev reports, media mentions, and general happenings around the Urbit ecosystem.
The Uqbar team is on the road for Eth Lisbon and the Starknet Community Conference starting this next weekend. If you’re in Lisbon for either event, put on your best Halloween costume and say hello.
On this week’s episode of The Network Age, the boys are joined by ~bitmep-faswyn, co-founder of Assembly Capital, to explore the risks, benefits, and excitement of early investment—whether funding developing technology like Urbit or building Network Age infrastructure in Latin America. A discussion you don’t want to miss.
On-nomi (オン飲み), Urbit’s online happy hour (hosted by Uqbar), continues to bring together developer and community guests every Thursday. This week we hosted ~pilwyc-fastec of the Communal Computing for Urbit group (~pilwyc-fastec/communal-computing-for-urbit) to discuss his grants investigating Urbit’s potential for smart home devices. Working with ~larryx-woldyr, ~pilwyc is taking the next step for Urbit by building support for smart bulbs (in this case, the Phillips smart bulb). To find On-nomi, join us on our Discord or Urbit group.
~midden-fabler has upgraded %ahoy to add automatic daily pack & meld. As you may know, if you run a popular group or have a long-running ship, manually implementing pack & meld become a necessary (weekly? monthly?) ritual to maintain your Urbit’s health. Now, with the addition of %scup to %ahoy, it’s set and forget. Download %ahoy from: ~mister-dister-midden-fabler.
Another busy week for the Uqbar team—check out some of their accomplishments:
~hodzod-walrus:
Adjust type naming scheme for clarity
Updated and improved contract compiler
Continued work on gall-testing software
~timfyn-ranpyl:
memoization of axis look ups
Since it was recently discovered by Chris Burniske, now is a great time to reread this thread from Philip Monk (~wicdev-wisryt ) explaining Urbit
A few of this week’s best threads from Uqbar founder, @basileSportif
