Week after week we deliver the platonic podcast, the pure function of functional phonics, the true, unadulterated Spirit of The Network Age.
Join us this week for podcast perfection with Network Age Episode 23: Building Future States with Nation3. With us are Luis Cuende and Anastasiya Belyaeva of Nation3, the “Online-first, zero-tax nation with its own jurisdiction, court and system of law”. (You had us at “zero-tax”). Luis (cofounder of Aragon) and Anastasiya discuss their network state optimism, how DAOs and smart contracts will shape a digital court system, and the benefits of becoming a Nation3 citizen. Then, they dive into capital formation in special economic zones, how digital states can support values-driven community, and the relative value of patriotism.

Aleph DAO have announced a trip and retreat for April 15-30 in Buenos Aires, where they’ve rented a mansion for 10 Urbitters and will be accepting other applicants to stay nearby. DM them on Twitter or Urbit if this interests you. They’ll be following Buenos Aires with a trip to Patagonia, and the trip to Patagonia with a very mysterious journey to an undisclosed location.

The @encodeclub x @urbit hackathon has come to a close, its winners announced, and its spoils disbursed! Congratulations to the Best-in-Show Pantheon team who built “An app that enables file storage, curation, and network-wide search and discovery on Urbit. Uses IPFS as a backend to advance a web3-native, decentralized file storage system.” Further congratulations to the other winners, who bring us Conway’s Game of Life, defi bridges, and Collective, a way to create investment clubs on Urbit + Uqbar.

A new Eth wallet is about to emerge on Urbit thanks to Holium. Details are sparse at press time, but it looks as if we’ll be able to send Eth simply by typing in an Urbit username, so do feel free to test it out by sending any amount of Ethereum to the “test username” ~habsul-rignyr *.

If you like ars Urbitica, you must see ~litmus-ritten’s work on “Really Existing Urbit Hardware”, shared by Urbit and also found on on his Vienna Hypertext page. We at Uqbar have been following this project with interest and have recently integrated “Tuffie Syntactic Foam Integument” into our zk-rollup technology.

Another busy week for the Uqbar team—check out some of their accomplishments:

STOP WHAT YOU ARE DOING AND LOOK AT THIS %PYRO DEMO AND UNDERSTAND THAT WE HAVE PUT A SHIP IN YOUR SHIP. (You’ll appreciate our restraint not using a boomer-tier “Yo dawg” meme). The work and video xzibit are courtesy ~dachus-tiprel.
7
~hodzod-walrus worked on social graph primitive, line-diff database primitive, and relational database primitive. Uqbar is, and always has been, full of primitives.
8
~hosted-fornet and dachus finished fast initial virtualship boot, cache committing and installing on virtualships for further speedup, and separated out chain-related (uqbar-core) and IDE-related (dev-suite) repositories. We are also on 5 consecutive days making our beds and cleaning our rooms.
9
Urbit Troubleshooting Basics by Zach (~dovsem-bornyl) asserts “ninety percent of [Urbit] issues are solved by knowing some basic core ideas about your urbit and a couple of tools that can help you understand the current state you’re in.” Got halfway through the guide before learning my real trouble is that the state I’m in is Tennessee.
That’s it for this week. Be sure to follow everyone and everything listed in this week’s rollup.
Make sure to drop by Uqbar’s Office Hours on Twitter at 1300 Eastern every other Monday (that’s today!) and Urbit’s On-nomi (Happy Hour) every Thursday at 1830 Eastern at the Urbit Hacker House on Gather Town.
And if you’re on Urbit, join our group at:
~hocwyn-tipwex/uqbar-event-horizon-forever.
If you’re NOT on Urbit, amend your living. We can help you with that: find us on Discord (preferred) or Telegram.
Until next time!
* We apologize for this joke. ~habsul-rignyr has been fired. From a cannon.
