Yeah, it’s been a while since you have heard from us, and a lot has happened. 

We are embarking on an exciting journey with a new brand and new looks. Unwavering in our vision, we are building a decentralised backend for modern banking on the blockchain, offering you a more comprehensive and innovative solution. 

Why are we rebranding?

We started building a smart hardware wallet in late 2022, and we quickly realised that our product could power a fully non-custodial banking system. The wallet industry has changed enormously since we started working in 2023; the EIP 4337 is now an ERC, Account abstraction is now natively supported on L2, and with the Petra upgrade, Ethereum L1 will be the vanilla version of AA. In the meantime, the BanklessWallet devs hacked in different hackathons from ETH Zürich to ETH India at  Banglore; we won many tracks, fixed bugs, shook hands with mentors, and partnered with awesome people in web3. During the Thanksgiving of 2023, we took time to reflect on our growth as individuals, teams, and a Company. With this rebranding, BanklessWallet will be Valerium.

/vəˈlɪərɪəm/  Noun: To be Strong 

We are on a mission to revolutionise the backend of the financial system, and for that, we need a strong name. We have looked no further than the old Latin dictionary one of our cofounders had. Valerian is the accusative version of the Latin verb Valerius, which means to be strong.

After a year-long journey, we are thrilled to present Valerium. It's not just a wallet or a Bank account—it's a unique solution that offers the key to financial freedom, setting it apart from other offerings in the market.

We are enabling you to bring your Fiat to the blockchain with a smart wallet and a hardware wallet, all connected to the current financial system, thus allowing you to do so quickly. 

We are enabling non-custodial banking through our smart Valerium wallets, a gasless, permissionless, seedless wallet powered by ZK.

Our wallet technology has simplified crypto custody with seedless logging, gas-free TXs, atomic TXs, etc.

We aim to bring the Web2 neo bank experience to crypto without compromising security or the core concepts of crypto. 

Our wallet is built using the ‘Superchain first’ approach and is native to the Superchain ecosystem. Our users have the Optimism main net as their home network and can deploy and control the Avatar wallet on any chain in the Superchain collective. 

If you don’t want to deploy a full wallet but just want to interact with some dapps on an L3 or a new chain on the Superchain, you can do so without bridging or chain hopping. Our ERC20 paymaster and forwarder will manage your cross-chain messages and execute transactions for you.

We will support Optimism, Base, and Mode from day one. More chains will be added soon. 

Valerium Pay will bring native non-custodial banking features to the Valerium ecosystem. Users from the EU/ EUEA can claim IBANs connected to the SWIFT/SEPA system.

With Valerian Pay, we aim to reduce the UX gap of Web 3 and bring the promised finance experience of crypto with the familiar flow neo banks are offering to their users. You can no longer forget your seed phrase - because we don’t have one -  or worry about the gas fees to interact with a Dapp.  With our wallet in the backend, we can abstract most of the hurdles you will face to get started. 

It is all about bringing your mom to web3, but what if you are a crypto veteran? Make your co-coiners pay you in crypto! You will receive all the fiat sent to your IBAN as Stables on the blockchain, a perfect on-and-off ramp built into your wallet.

Valerian Pay will probably be your first non-custodial crypto-friendly bank account, with the gateway to easily move between the real world and blockchain. 

The last and final part of the Valerium stack is the hardware wallet. It is an NFC-based smart card that introduces online private key management and 2FA authentication for your transactions.  With some luck, you can tap and pay in crypto at your local store. We are very excited to share more with you; stay tuned.
