Ever since the arrival of ChatGPT, we've all experienced the sheer power of generative AI to generate human-like text. But what's next? The possibilities seem endless as AI continues to change the way we create, consume, and monetize content.

We believe the advancements of generative AI will lead us to an abundance of personalized content, where every experience is tailored to your interests. AI has already curated content based on user preferences, but now it is creating the content itself.
Put simply: "AI Spotify" will produce songs based on user interests, rather than curate them. Another tangible use case will be to seamlessly adjust certain elements of existing content to user preferences - for example choosing a child-appropriate language (vs the original version) or dubbing. In the future, this could extend to a real-time generation of different director's cuts, a specific scenery or real-time brand placement based on user preferences.
Today, necessary data for content curation is collected and stored centrally on the respective entertainment platform, e.g. Spotify. Following the promise of web3, we believe consumers will soon store & manage their own data (incl. consumption patterns & preferences) decentrally - implying a better & interoperable content curation across different entertainment platforms.
In combination with cutting-edge generative AI technology, decentrally stored consumer data will further enable entertainment platforms to not only curate but to create individualized content for each user - even when using it for the first time.

From a monetization perspective, brands will push for targeted, native ads. Such an ad product combines the best of both worlds: Native content integration (vs. annoying ad breaks) plus targeted brand messages (vs. clumsy product placement) - both leading to higher marketing ROIs and user satisfaction.
Imagine a world in which your James Bond chases the villain in an Audi instead of the newest Aston Martin model - simply because you prefer Audi (and have been spending quite some time configuring the newest model lately…).

However, beyond the business & creative potential of the outlined shift to content personalization, we also need to address concerns about further social atomization and isolation. Some even proclaim the potential “death of culture”. From our point of view, these concerns have to be taken seriously, but we believe that personalization has the potential to unite, instead of divide!
People enjoy shared experiences & talking about these. So we expect generative AI to also enhance group experiences - fueled by combined user preferences. Imagine a movie in which explicit language & imagery is automatically adjusted to the youngest viewer. Or certain location-based experiences that are fully AI-generated depending on location, time and participants. Some users might even envision themselves as a side character in the movie they are watching together with friends. As a result, personal experiences and preferences will be woven into shared ones to talk about.

In conclusion, we expect the shift to AI-powered personalized content to further transform the way we create, distribute, consume, and monetize content. New consumer use cases and business models will emerge in this new world where content is not just consumed, but created. Just for you.
We are CHAPTR, a new venture studio building new media businesses. We are convinced that generative AI and web3 are ongoing paradigm shifts that will sustainably change the way we create, consume & monetize content.
