In a world that seems to be driven by material pursuits and self-interest, there is still a glimmer of hope — the charity. In the meantime, it is a cornerstone of the humanistic world — and the integrator of the newest and cutting-edge technologies. As a matter of fact, the cumbersomeness of intermediaries and financial processes is long gone, as many non-profit organisations turn to implementing the means of crypto into their workflow. Consequently, in this day and age, anyone with the digital wallet and a big heart can efficiently and transparently contribute to aiding the ones in need — from the remote regions, engulfed in property, and the states, recovering from the warfare and disasters, to the endangered species and destroyed ecosystem.
In this article, I share three of the most decent crypto charity initiatives, which definitely must be supported and spread the word about.
CARE, one of the oldest non-profitable charitable organisations, has implemented crypto payments in the meantime, and since then it carried out a great number of campaigns, fully funded with digital assets. The recent one aided the suffering from the Turkish-Syrian earthquake, and remarkably, a great part of the funds was donated by the Ripple and the rest of the active crypto-community.
The activeness of the crypto-philanthropists spurred CARE to establish their native Crypto Fund, which covers the most relevant vectors of humanitarian aid in this day and age. Namely, the initiative supports rural Benin, Ukrainian Refugees, mentioned before victims of the earthquake which took part in Turkey and Northern Syria, and many others. By and large, last year CARE reached more than 174 million people from 111 countries with humanitarian relief and poverty-fighting programs.

The mission of Orangutan Outreach initiative is to protect orangutans in their native forests of Borneo and Sumatra. Specifically, they are responsible for rescuing orphaned and displaced orangutans, their complex treatment and rehabilitation in specially-created care centres, and consequent release into the natural habitat. Besides, the organisation takes over orangutans’ retirement and reforestation with the aim to restore the ecosystems, which are jeopardised by malicious human activity.
Notably, Orangutan Outreach is at the highest rate of popularity thanks to the crypto community. Thus, as of December 2021, the foundation raised more through crypto donations than their entire revenue from the year 2020. For instance, only the Bored Ape Yacht Club — a priorly buzzing NFT project — donated 169 $ETH worth $389,000. That fact radically impacted — and enhanced — the operability of Orangutan Outreach. As Richard Zimmerman, the Executive Director of the non-profitable organisation, stated:
“We’re going to incorporate crypto into everything we do moving forward. I’m not used to having the luxury of this arsenal and war chest behind me, but we’re going to make it bigger so we can do more good work.”

This category is a compilation of a number of facts and crypto initiatives, which accelerated and consolidated the position of digital assets in the realm of charity.
With the break-out of the unprovoked, large-scaled Russian invasion, almost $200 million in crypto has been donated to Ukraine for different purposes — both defensive and humanitarian — for the year since the beginning. The list of philanthropists, aiding the state, involved the crypto community and major crypto entities. Among them — was the creator of Ethereum, Vitalik Buterin, who transferred 1500 $ETH worth more than $4.8 million.
According to Chainalysis, the great part of the digital assets — $70 million, were transferred within the initiative “Crypto Fund Aid for Ukraine” — a project, coined and maintained by Mykhailo Fedorov, Ukraine’s Minister of Digital Innovations and Vice Prime Minister.

Another pillar of Ukrainian crypto charity is WhiteBIT — one of the largest European crypto exchanges, which originated in Kharkiv, Ukraine. Apart from donating decent amounts of digital assets to Ukrainian non-profit organisations, and military forces, and aiding the restorement of the infrastructure, they stood out by purchasing the Eurovision trophy for $900,000 at the auction, initiated by Kalush Orchestra — the 2022 winners of the song contest. All the funds were spent on the defence means.
Additionally, WhiteBIT recently aided the victims of the flood in the southern part of Ukraine, which occurred as a backlash of terrorising actions of Russian Military Forces — specifically, the deliberate blow-up of Nova Kakhovka Dam. Reportedly, the crypto exchange transferred more than $270,000 dollars.
Besides, WhiteBIT and Whitepay (crypto payment service) has recently partnered with the Ronald McDonald House in Ukraine — McDonald’s-owned one of the biggest charitable organisations, aiding children suffering from warfare.

From what has been stated above, it is evident that we are on the doorstep of a new era in philanthropy. The fusion of cryptocurrencies and charitable initiatives unlocked new opportunities for supporting non-profit organisations and, consequently, helping people, animals, and those, for whom the aid is urgent. The charity is being empowered and simultaneously becoming more accessible. At the same time, the potential of crypto is again proved to be boundless — the technology is genuinely flexible to be integrated into all walks of life.
With the cultural transformation referring to the attitude to charity as well as cutting-edge technologies, philanthropy would be taken numerous stages higher. So, embrace the spirit of giving, and do not be reluctant to make the world a better place. You truly have the power for it!
