Please scroll, don’t worry, there are no spoilers!
This series has the vibe of “epp me, them dey carry me dey go where I no know”, because every episode was a plot twist. This series had me literally on the edge of my seat; I watched it in 7 hours!
I will start with the main character, Maya Stern. She is an ex-army recruit whose husband and sister were murdered and she embarks on a quest to uncover the truth. The things she unraveled, made her mother-in-law start to question her sanity. I would have liked to share more details about her exploits, but like I said ‘no spoilers’. She gave ‘main character energy’ and the character is my fave.
When I started watching, lowkey, I was a bit skeptical about Detective Sami - this is the Detective who led her husband's case, but as the series unfolded, it became clear he was also a victim of some of the issues that plagued their community. Another suspicious character is Shane - Maya’s partner while she was serving in the army. The vibes he gave were just off, my spirit wasn’t settled with the character. In fact, it's not just Detective Sami and Shane I suspected, everyone was a suspect, and each episode, a new lead was revealed.
The writers really outdid themselves. There are obviously some parts where you will pause and question the scene, but I think that definitely speaks to the brilliance of the script. Also, it was a good character blend, kudos to the team. Okay, I am fangirling now.
The gist is that the series has a lot of suspense, and plot twists, and it is truly worth your time. I am also very happy it is a limited series before it turns into another Fast and Furious or Skinny Girl in Transit series. (yes, I am shading).
I usually don’t watch stories based on books, but this was a case of "Don't judge a movie by its book”, Get it? The author, Harlan Coben (and apparently also the director) has gotten a fan in me, I'd definitely watch or read anything he works on!
I hope I have been able to convince you to go and watch it. I highly recommend it!
