Friends, we ride together.
With the sun in full force and the gravel in primo condition, what better time than to hang out with your fellow kin and ride some bikes?
And lo, this Thursday April 24 we're co-hosting an XFondo shakeout ride here in Vancouver hosted out of Bici - you better believe you're invited!
There will be 2 groups of mixed gender, and a women's only group led by Ruckus Racing! (see below for pacing) Here's the deets:
Date: Thu April 24
Time: Meet from 5:30pm, roll out at 6pm. We should have you back at Bici for 8pm (but no promises so bring lights)
Location: Bici Vancouver (1497 Adanac)
Route: A short loop of Fishermans, approx 2 hours. Groups: 'A' Group and 'B' Group (both open gender), then a Women's only group led by Ruckus Racing
After: Rack your bike at Bici and enjoy some fresh cold 🍺 Red Truck beers, on us
Cost: FREE (RSVP required)
Show up early to have time to dial your tire pressure, chat with other gravel riders, and hear more about XFondo. This is a great opportunity to test out your gravel setup ahead of the race!
'A' group is geared towards seasoned gravel riders with a few events under their belt, while the 'B' group is for those looking for a more social pace, and those who are new to gravel riding.
We're fortunate and grateful to have the queens at Ruckus Racing lead the Women's shakeout ride on Thursday! Here's what they had to say:
One of our favourite races is only a couple of months away, and we’re pumped to be headed back to the Whistler trails!
The @itsxfondo is the perfect race if it’s your first rodeo, or you’re a veteran gravel racer. It twists, and turns, takes you up and down, with the beautiful backdrop! There are three distances to choose from, you can pick your own adventure!
Want to get ready? Come hang with us for a gravel ride, with our good friends at @bicicletta.cc ! We will be leading a women’s only group to Fisherman’s, and finishing up the night with exclusive giveaways and goodies Ride be will approx 2 hours! Roll out is 6pm sharp - get there early or you might miss us!
The countdown is on… 2 months until @itsxfondo ✨ see ya there? Lindsay Derer / Instagram
"I got my first gravel bike about one and a half years ago, and while I absolutely love gravel riding, I am still pretty damn average at it.
"I'm not going to lie, XFondo was one of the hardest things I have ever done, which I think is proven by the fact that I came in 2nd last in my category, but whether it was the insanely fun single track, the super well stocked aid stations, the spectacular views, or just the incredibly supportive vibe of the event, I knew I was coming back this year the second I crossed that finish line."
Join self-described "a very average cyclist" Lindsay Derer through her series of videos in the lead up to XFondo, where she'll be taking you through everything from "things I wish I knew", gravel training, hydration and more as the clock counts down to June 14!
Make sure you're following @lindsdurr and @itsxfondo for new drops every other week...
Arbutus Routes are the official bike rental, mechanical and bike shop sponsor, located in Whistler BC.
Grab yourself a zinger of a bike that's perfectly suited to the tests of XFondo - it's cheaper, easier and far more convenient to rent, especially if this is your first event!
We've made all the XFondo routes downloadable as a GPX file in advance so you can get a scope of what's in store. What's more - many of the trails are becoming snow free and you know what that means - riding season is upon us!
