A clip from our show at Bonusz Festival 🛸 🌪️ In a world of overpowering, pre-rendered, time-coded visuals (think sexy robots smashing the screen), we try to bring a darker, more hypnotic atmosphere that anchors people in the feeling over the spectacle. With minimal backlighting on Rich and no spotlight, it becomes about the music and experience, using the LED to shape the darkness around him. 🤍 🩶 🖤

Richie Hawtin at Bonusz Festival was one of my favourite shows of all time. A cinematic, ultra-wide LED canvas with hypnotic, minimal lighting by Kai Sauer. Can be challenging creating a more cerebral and dark atmosphere, but very happy with the result. Visuals made in TouchDesigner using T3D by Josef Pelz + Mini UV's FLOW3D. Starting to feel more confident with my setup, particularly since VDMX now supports TouchDesigner comps and I no longer need to create and maintain a show control system. For now at least… Visuals made in TouchDesigner using T3D by Josef Pelz. Grateful for these operators which have helped me break through creative paralysis and experiment with a completely new direction 🤍

Clip from Friday night with Richie Hawtin. Tricky with 8bit LEDs which seem to be the standard at most festivals ( our rider asks for 10bit but I guess the cost and perhaps not understanding why that’s important for visuals often means it doesn’t happen - or they say it the screen supports 10bit but then the processor doesn’t so it’s pointless ). I try to mitigate for banding with dither with various rates of success, long story short if you have a keen eye you’ll notice banding 🥲

3D Reaction Diffusion in a volume using T3D. These explorations ended up in the discarded folder as not happy with the resolution, it’s tricky keeping it ~60fps on my MBP. More work to be done…

Neopop Festival 2025 with Richie Hawtin, shot by Matias Garcia. The show design centred on transforming the LED screens into a portal between the physical & virtual, using volumetric light, fog & smoke in TouchDesigner to blur the boundary of what’s on screen and what’s real. Today I’m exhibiting three chapters of Duality at the Andalusian Contemporary Arts Centre, Seville, at NXT Festival, as part of PHŌS_ Our Fire, curated by @sutan in partnership with the Tezos Foundation. Thrilled that my companion artwork, EBB–FLOW 02 (pictured), was collected by @antagonist4ever♩♫♡ Thank you @sutan for this thoughtful and beautiful text about my work. — For Joëlle, sound is not an inspiration. It is law. Her work is a visual grammar dictated by frequency, a search to give tangible form to the invisible. Her practice is not born from the solitude of the studio, but from the communion of the dance floor. Forged as the visual artist of techno legend Richie Hawtin and as a resident of London’s FOLD club, her language has been tempered in live performance, in the need to translate the pulse of music into an immediate, visceral visual experience. She employs real-time generative systems not as a tool, but as an instrument.
