We all know compound interest, and how it is the key to making more money. You invest money into a savings account, investment, etc, and reinvest the interest accrued.
What if we apply it to every day tasks? As a Software Engineer, you can read every day for 20 minutes about something totally new, I.e. a new framework, design pattern, ways of working in a team, and write about it. The result? Years of writing turn into a personal mini blog of wisdom. Open for the world to see and get more opportunities.
Applying the principles of compound interest to daily habits pays off over time, the more consistent you are in investing energy, time, habits, the more knowledge and experience you acquire. But it doesn’t stop there. You can add an extra layer of high standards. Spending an extra minute refining, and focusing on excellence, forces you go the extra mile.
In a way, high standards are another form of seeking excellence in everything you do. Minutes that seem insignificant, accumulate and build massive chunks of knowledge and behaviour, with perseverance and discipline.
