Hello World!
I fell down a bit of a crypto rabbit-hole this past year and now I felt it was time to start writing about the space in 2023🤙
Through my passive exploration of web3 Twitter, Discord, and just talking to friends, I found the community to be exciting and forward thinking. At the same time I also saw lots of people getting burned on scams, and overall a lack of information on how this space works.
That is what motivates me to write this today, to share my experience and insights on crypto and web3.
To give a little background about myself, my name is Alex and I am studying my M.A. in Digital Media and Society at the Center for Media, Communication and Information Research (ZeMKI) at the University of Bremen.
My studies and research focuses on digitalization and datafication processes that result from new technologies and how they impact society. This is mainly focusing on web2 platforms and infrastructure, but my personal interest is in decentralized platforms built on blockchains.
This is why I am exploring web3, because I see real value in building decentralized platforms, and giving content creators a new way to own and monetize their work.
Beyond digital media research, I enjoy staying active, traveling, reading and photography.
The afmedia blog will be a combination of my personal exploration into the web3 world, as well as topics in digital media and innovations in the field that I find interesting and useful.
Hopefully some people find some value in what I have to write about, and I am always happy to hear recommendations. 🙂
Topics of focus
Crypto tools and decentralized platform overviews and case studies
Latest developments in the web3 community
Opportunities and challenges of blockchain technology to disrupt the digital media industry
And occasional personal topics on cool things I find or experience that I want to share with people. Inspired by Tim Ferriss (@timferriss) “5 Bullet Friday” newsletter
I don’t have a strict approach for how this blog will take shape, but it will surely not be overly wordy. I never liked reading long posts, so I hope to keep people interested by getting right to the point and providing useful links to dive into topics more.
I am excited to get back into writing about a field I am passionate about. I believe there is a tremendous opportunity for decentralized publishing, so I want to start experimenting with some of these new tools and continue to learn and share more about this space.
The web3 ecosystem is an exciting community of developers, designers and overall forward thinkers that has inspired me to write and help make the new era of the web accessible for all. 🚀
Feel free to drop me some feedback and recommendations on Twitter (@alexgfisher124)
