Updates on Arweave and AO with a spotlight on consumer apps

Alex

Hey, happy Friday, everyone! Here’s a quick look at what’s new in the Arweave ecosystem, AO consumer apps, and media I’m currently consuming.

Arweave update

  • Builder Interest is up in 2024: A16z Crypto’s State of Crypto 2024 and Builder Energy report highlights that Arweave makes up 0.9% of total blockchain builder interest, putting it ahead of competitors like Filecoin (0.6%) and ICP (0.5%).

  • 10 Billion Transactions Last Wednesday, Arweave hit a milestone of 10 billion transactions, averaging around 350 transactions per second.

  • Print to Arweave The latest Arconnect wallet update makes it easy to save web pages to Arweave with just a few clicks. I tested this tool by archiving the A16z Crypto report permanently on Arweave.

  • PermaHacks 2024 Weavers is hosting a two-week hackathon with $22,500 in bounties. Our team is contributing a $3,000 creative bounty for Bazar, encouraging unique creations on Bazar.

New agents in Llamaland

Llamaland is a 2D world powered by fully onchain AI and is part of an open-source protocol called Reality. In this decentralized environment, anyone can create autonomous agents or even new worlds, using the capabilities of AO and Arweave.

AI on AO is here and Llamaland is showcasing how anyone can permissionlessly deploy AI agents into the Reality game. This is possible due to AO’s modular architecture, which enables users to build numerous parallel processes, a flexibility other decentralized computation models often lack. Read more about AO here.

And check out the new Llamaland mini-game, created by a community member, that will be live on October 28th:

Stay tuned for PermaHacks 2024 projects

With two weeks of hacking underway, projects span from AO dApps, to custom permapages and unique collections. I can't wait to see what comes out of this event!

What I’m consuming

Documentary:

While searching for DIY bookshelf inspiration, I stumbled into the world of Bauhaus and its impact on modern design. This DW documentary covers Bauhaus’ influence on product, architectural, and tech design.

Book:

  • The Trial by Franz Kafka

“Logic may indeed be unshakeable, but it cannot withstand a man determined to live.”

Reflecting on my deepdive into Bauhaus and that quote from The Trial, I see how Bauhaus taken to extremes can feel cold or dehumanizing, Soviet-era architecture especially comes to mind. As society moves deeper into cyberspace with the emergence of AI, it’s essential we continue to prioritize the beauty of humanity. Building a freer, fairer web is something I’m passionate about because people, even with all of our quirks and flaws, must remain central to our online world, not dictated by a few large tech companies.

And for those of us who spend much of our time in cyberspace, remember to touch grass this weekend. Your mind and body will thank you.

Have a great weekend!
