Paukenschlag, der: Hot Toys sichert sich „007“-Lizenz. Zumindest für Fans des britischen Doppelnullagenten im Geheimdienst Ihrer Majestät dürfte es das sein, was die Figurenbude aus Hongkong heute in einem kurzen Teaser-Video auf Social Meda ankündigte. Offensichtlich ist es Hot Toys gelungen, sich die Lizenz der wahrscheinlich langlebigsten Filmreihe der Welt zu sichern. Viel mehr als dieses besagte Video und den Vermerk, „Coming in 2025“ wissen wir noch nicht.

Es ist zu diesem Zeitpunkt also noch unklar, welcher James Bond hier als Sammlerfigur im Maßstab 1:6 umgesetzt wird. Sean Connery? Roger Moore? Daniel Craig? Alle? Und: wird sich Hot Toys nur auf den Agenten mit Lizenz zum Töten konzentrieren, oder auch die Gegenspieler umsetzen? Blomfeld zum Beispiel? Und wenn, in welcher Interpretation? Der von Christoph Waltz? Und wie sieht es mit den Bond Girls aus? Oder hat Hot Toys gar schon von Amazon die Kristallkugel in die Hand bekommen und weiß, wer der nächste Bond wird und richtet die Produktpalette danach aus? So viele Fragen, die diese Ankündigung aufwirft. Warten wir es ab.

Ich würde sagen, da hat Hot Toys ein ziemlich dickes Fass aufgemacht heute und Interessierte fangen besser schon mal an, sich ein paar Taler Milchgeld an die Seite zu legen. Zwar gab es in der Vergangenheit schon die ein oder andere James-Bond-Figur (zum Beispiel zu „Goldfinger“ mit Sean Connery als Bond), aber die zuständige Firma Big Chief Studios hat meines Wissens den Betrieb eingestellt und die Figuren gehen bei eBay & Co. teilweise für Preise weg, die nicht mehr feierlich sind. Und auch wenn die entstandene Marktlücke in kleinen Teilen durch Drittanbieter ohne entsprechende Lizenz (und oft auch nur mit überschaubarer Ähnlichkeit zu den dargestellten Personen) bedient wurde –  es ist für Fans sicher prima, dass sich hier nun wieder offizielle und vor allem ganz gewiss sehenswerte Produkte am Horizont abzeichnen.

Hot Toys feiert in diesem Jahr 25. Jubiläum. Man darf gespannt sein, was sie aus diesem Anlass noch präsentieren werden.

Major Announcement: Hot Toys Secures "007" License!

At least for fans of Britain's most famous secret agent, this is huge news. In a short teaser video on social media today, Hong Kong-based figure manufacturer Hot Toys announced that they’ve secured the license for what is arguably the longest-running film franchise in history. Beyond the teaser and a simple "Coming in 2025" note, we don’t know much yet.

At this point, it's still unclear which James Bond will be turned into a 1:6 scale collectible figure. Sean Connery? Roger Moore? Daniel Craig? All of them? And will Hot Toys focus solely on the agent with a license to kill, or will they also bring Bond villains to life? Blofeld, perhaps? And if so, which version? The one played by Christoph Waltz? What about the Bond girls? Or has Hot Toys already gotten a crystal ball from Amazon and knows who the next Bond will be, shaping their product lineup accordingly? So many questions arise from this announcement. Guess we’ll have to wait and see.

One thing's for sure: Hot Toys has just opened a massive can of worms, and collectors might want to start saving up now. While there have been James Bond figures in the past—like the "Goldfinger" Sean Connery figure—Big Chief Studios, the company responsible, has shut down as far as I know. Those figures now fetch ridiculous prices on eBay and other marketplaces. Sure, the market gap has been partially filled by third-party manufacturers without official licenses (and often with only a passing resemblance to the actors), but for fans, it's great to see officially licensed and undoubtedly high-quality products on the horizon once again.

Hot Toys is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. It'll be interesting to see what else they have in store for us.
