gm is deeply interweaved into #NFT culture at this point. It’s a way to greet and chill when things are down bad and the simplest thing that connects all of us.
This culture didn’t exist, we (all out there in 2021) created this and embraced it.
A large part of the ecosystem was (still is) around trading and flipping NFTs v/s collecting them. There’s nothing wrong with it; it gives you the dopamine rush when a trade goes your way. However, it gets old soon.
One such journey was mine, around July of 2021, I pivoted to spend most of my time connecting with emerging artists from around the globe and collecting works from them. It was also a gesture of helping the ecosystem forward since artists are one of the main pillars of this revolution. Honestly, they drive adoption amongst individuals who haven’t used the blockchain before, but now they have a way to upload their work and earn big money (fancy). This is important to anyone who has seen the ecosystem grow and has been waiting for “mass adoption” this revolution is disrupting bottom-up v/s top-down (waiting for institutions to use blockchains).
Most of the artworks I collected at the beginning of this journey were on Foundation -https://foundation.app/@blocknoob

I was largely just collecting, enjoying the works and saying gm every morning on twitter and discords when I came across tweets from VVD sharing artwork with his daily gm/gn tweets and I took inspiration from that.

This was another ‘‘Eureka’ moment since I was collecting mainly from emerging artists, and this was a great way to add value and share their creations with whatever small audience I had. That’s when the journey started, however after 10 days’ worth of ‘gm’ tweets; I realized there isn’t any easy way to look back at this chain and see all the ‘GMs’ I had shared. Bring in - Quote GMs.
Starting on September 18th, 2021, I started posting GMs in quote tweets to the previous day’s gms, thus making a chain I can look back on.
Genesis quote gm
This started the chain. One of my favorite artworks from Yatreda.

Here is the preview of the next quote gm.

365-day mark
The first goal was to do it daily for at least a year, and yesterday on 17th September 2022, I achieved that goal with this gm featuring aleqth.

This is a day to celebrate, and I’ve also been experimenting with a lot of creative tools (will write a separate article on my creation and artistic goals), but back to celebration; I documented this entire journey, made a video, and as of this publication it’s available for a free claim (gas cost) on the Ethereum blockchain.

NFT : Noob 365 GMs - A journey (2021-2022)
It has been a fun ride so far, and I’ll continue to share the great artwork that I’ve collected. In mean time, I’d like to share a few more fun facts about this journey.
Initially, in the journey, I wanted just to share 1/1s, but I quickly realized that it’s not sustainable without breaking the bank and still enjoying the process. In light of that, I ramped up collecting on Tezos v/s collecting on Ethereum since it had a lot of good and affordable art. Since then, I’ve shared anything and everything I’ve collected (including pfps) since it’s a task to look at your collection every morning and choose a piece, let alone curate it daily.
One thing I loved to see was my fellow collectors and some creators taking inspiration from it and sharing works they have collected. Check them out

One of the collectors who has a great taste.

pravinj is also the person who brings all the hard-forks to my notice. Love his passion for the community today.

Shout out to an artist who is on a similar journey on the creation side. They have been creating with a goal to do it for 365 days. I know it because they comment on my gm posts frequently.

Believe it or not, but we’ve had quote gm merges (some of us sharing from the same artist or same artwork )

I love that we’ve been able to share so much artwork on Twitter using quote GMs but sometimes I wonder if there’s a better-decentralized alternative to it which may or may not have the network effects of twitter today but might in the future.
I’ll continue this journey, and I hope many more of you join and share the works you’ve created or collected.
I’m more active on Twitter if you’d like to connect - Blocknoob. I have another article on mirror with a brief introduction. Also, if you find any inconsistencies in the article, let me know, I’ll address them.
The banner in this article was created by me x DALLE by OpenAI (might write another article about AI art ), but as I said earlier, I’ve been playing around with many creative tools, and it’s one of them.
I am testing out the collection aspect of the mirror, and if you’d like to collect this article, I’ve made 69 editions available at 0.01 ETH.
Thank you for reading this! I hope you enjoyed it.
