Subsidizing User Gas Fees with Caldera
What are gas fees?Gas refers to the unit that measures the amount of computational effort required to execute specific operations on the Ethereum network.Ethereum.org Gas is the foundation of the Ethereum network. Every network on the chain has a non-zero gas fee that rewards supporters who have staked Ethereum and prevents bad actors from spamming the network. [0] In fact, projects that need faster execution speed can add a tip for the miner to bump their operations to the top. Every dApp bu...

Caldera Spark Retrospective: 5000 rollups launched
Hey there, folks! In February, we announced the launch of Caldera Spark, a proof-of-concept dashboard that enabled developers to permissionlessly launch their own rollups with a single click. https://mirror.xyz/calderachains.eth/_AqxVmvrPjSHOQG0TE3ClWUD5vsIAGN3saU3ahhiBRs Given that we just launched our public testnet rollups, we decided now is a good time to retire Caldera Spark. Spark was always meant to be a proof-of-concept, showcasing our ability to run hundreds of dedicated layer-two bl...

Unveiling Caldera's Public Testnets
Caldera’s Testnets Are Live!We are excited to share that Caldera has officially opened two public testnets! Caldera is already live, running multiple production rollups on mainnet for select projects. But we wanted to open up public Caldera chains for the broader Ethereum developer community to test with. Since we support multiple settlement layers, we’ve deployed one testnet on Goerli Ethereum, and the other on Polygon Mainnet. These testnets have been launched to showcase the power of Calde...

Creating a blockchain is hard, or at least it was hard before today.
We’re excited to drop Spark, giving the world a glimpse into the modular future through a simplified, testnet version of our no-code deployment platform, which allows anyone to permissionlessly launch their own testnet appchain rollup in just ~5 minutes with one click - no code required.
Before, if you were a developer hoping to build a project on your own chain, you needed to:
Learn & master the Cosmos SDK
Dive deep in the weeds on a consensus network and your state transition function
Spin up your own block explorer and testnet faucet
Hire a whole team of protocol engineers and work for months to make your vision a reality
Now, you can launch a chain in 5 minutes from the Spark dashboard page.
Our goal for this platform is to make it as easy as possible for you to deploy and build on top of your own blockchain. In order to use it, simply enter the name of your rollup & desired chain ID, wait ~5 minutes for the rollup to be spun up, and voilà* -* you’re all set to start building.

Once that’s complete, you’ll be taken to your rollup management page, where you’ll be able to view the status and details of your rollup (including your chain’s RPC URL, name, and ID) along with a custom, pre-made block explorer and testnet faucet to request funds from.

And that’s it! Add your RPC URL to Metamask, request testnet tokens, deploy whatever smart contracts you want, and build whatever you can imagine on your rollup!
Keep in mind:
THESE ARE TESTNET ROLLUPS AND SHOULD NOT BE USED IN PRODUCTION
Chains launched through the testnet platform will expire after 12 hours
Chains launched by this platform will not natively bridge to any other blockchain for now (because they roll up to an internal testnet)
You can deploy a production rollup with us if you book a call!
Caldera chains make use of the robust OP stack, and offer lightning-fast confirmation times, high throughput, and low fees. On top of that, Caldera chains offer full EVM compatibility, making most EVM-compatible developer tools functional on our testnet rollups with zero additional setup required.
Still unsure? Don’t worry, we know it’s a big decision. Check out this blog post for a more comprehensive breakdown of our architecture, we’re confident this will help you decide whether a Caldera chain is right for you.
Although Spark only supports emphemeral, testnet chains, Caldera chains are already live in production and running on both Ethereum and Polygon mainnet!
Interested in learning more about how a Caldera chain can help your project? Book a call with our team and we’ll help you set up a production-ready Caldera chain to experience the power of Caldera for yourself.
The future is modular. Come build it with us!
