One of the things people can do who are into cannabis and similar habits is to learn the local laws and ordinances if you are planning to spend time in a new town, even if it is within your own state. A good way to do this is to go to local news websites and the city’s or town’s official website and look up the laws.
Using Hobbs New Mexico as an example, here are some pieces of information from the city’s website and local news outlets. Keep such information with you, either printed or on your phone, in case you ever have any legal issues. This is so that you can confirm that you did some kind of research ahead of time and attempted to follow the laws to the best of your ability.
According to this article from Hobbs: “
There are some things to keep in mind. You have to be 21 or older in order to purchase, and you cannot purchase marijuana for a minor. When you are outside your home, you're only allowed to have two ounces of cannabis flower or bud, 16 grams of cannabis extract, and 800 milligrams of edible cannabis on your person at one time.” -- Full article at this link below:
Also be sure that you have updated information as best as possible. This is from the Hobbs website as of 2021, but laws likely changed to some degree:
https://www.hobbsnm.org/files/legal_notices/2021/faqs.pdf
Part of the above from 2021 reads:
“4. Can a person use cannabis in public? How old do you have to be to use cannabis?
“No. Cannabis products may only be smoked, vaped and ingested within an indoor or outdoor “cannabis consumption area.” Cannabis consumption areas are not public places and they must be at a distance of 300 ft. from schools and daycare centers. Persons who engage in consumption must be 21 years or older, unless they have a medical marijuana card. (NMSA 1978 § 27-2C-12(2))”
Hobbs may have unique rules about what can be sold and hours of operation for any local dispensary. Contact the city or the storefront locations of interest to you in order to get up-to-date rules.
Also be up to date on the State’s laws. For example, here is New Mexico’s rules about cannabis:

Note that any particular city, like Hobbs, may have more restrictive rules so always be aware of both aspects if you wish to partake.
