The earth.eth ENS domain was first acquired by .earth founders in December 2020, with the vision that one day subdomains of earth would become valuable NFTs in the Web3 community. Earth lends itself to a powerful narrative as a base domain for the future of Web3 activity, exchange and experience. Recent technical innovations by the ENS development team, namely the Name Wrapper contract, have allowed us create an ecosystem around .earth, a first of its kind community where users receive what we're calling ENS avatars, i.e., subdomains of earth.eth that contain both the functionality of ENS and the traditional PFP.

The ENS Name Wrapper grants the ability to turn any .eth name into an ERC1155 NFT. This not only gives you easy access to open decentralized infrastructure, but building an ecosystem around a single ENS domain marks the future of on-chain communities. Moving forward, what we call ENS “superdomains” will be key to driving stickiness amongst communities, allowing users to not only feel connected via the ownership of various NFT collectibles, but also be digitally tied to one another under the umbrella of a superdomain. Subdomains are configured much like a base ENS domain and inherit all ENS functionality.
Wrapping the earth.eth parent domain enables it to control how the subdomains are created, allowing us to create as many tiers of subdomains as we choose. The possibilities of subdomain creation are endless, with unlimited parent and child domain combinations—france.earth.eth can create paris.france.earth.eth, which can create eiffeltower.france.earth.eth and so on. The name wrapper uses a feature called a “fuse”, giving subdomains the ability to be traded and transferred, create further subdomains, and support metadata. Each fuse can be enabled or disabled by the parent domain, making these NFTs unruggable.
earth.eth will function as a superdomain for the .earth ecosystem. Users will have the ability to create their own unique subdomains(e.g. alex.earth.eth) of earth.eth. Those who are fortunate enough to mint Nomad NFTs will receive special OG .earth subdomains with 1-5 digit token IDs (1285.earth.eth) with unique images and traits bound to their subdomain. Nomads are the first of its kind ENS Avatars, setting a new standard for NFT avatars with unique ENS functionality baked in.

What you can do with an ENS Avatar…only time will tell. Hold the vision, trust the process.
