It is sad to see many young people today wasting their energy and youth on things that bring no value in the name of enjoying their youth. Miles Davis said "Time is not the most important thing, it is the only thing." Many people waste their youth, thinking that they have plenty of time to do serious things later, not knowing that in the process of enjoying themselves, they are attracting bad friends that will be difficult to get rid of if they decide to get serious later. Or worse, they may get used to that lifestyle and it gradually becomes a normal thing.
One of the most terrible consequences that a person can attract in the process of enjoying themselves is the wrong partner. If you are not serious about your life, do not expect to find a partner who is serious about life because it will be very difficult to attract such a person. If you are standing still, there is no way you can attract a growth-minded person. If you are going nowhere, don’t expect to be with someone who is going somewhere. So you are more likely to attract someone who is like you, and sadly, when you want to start growing, you may find that your partner doesn’t want to do the same and because you can’t support someone who doesn’t want to be supported, you will end the relationship because of the huge differences.
Many people ask what to do if their partner is not interested in supporting and encouraging them with their dreams. It is certain that not everyone will understand your dreams and goals and that is okay. But having a partner who understands and appreciates your goals and dreams will make things easier. While you are still young, focus on improving yourself and understanding yourself so that you can attract better things. Many young people are more obsessed with knowing about others than knowing about themselves. They spend their time mastering others instead of understanding themselves. Lao Tzu also said, “To know others is wisdom; to know yourself is truth. Mastering others is power; to master yourself is true power.” Your relationship with yourself is one of the most important relationships in your life.
Don’t just go for beauty, find someone with similar values and goals, someone who is willing to grow and help you grow and discover your purpose. Albert Einstein said, “Time is truly the only capital a man has and the only thing he cannot afford to lose.”
When you are young, find time to improve yourself whenever you can. It is true that it is easier to pick up a cigarette or a beer every weekend than it is to pick up a book. It is easier to say yes to things that bring short-term pleasure but it is harder to do things that bring long-term benefits. You need to have the courage to say no to things that give you instant pleasure but the pain will last a long time.
If you always choose the easy things now, your life will be difficult tomorrow, if you choose the difficult things now, your life will be easier in the future. Be painful today so that you can feel comfortable later.
