Talent is a company’s greatest asset, yet it’s never been harder to find, reach, and hire top candidates.
Over the last several months, we interviewed dozens of talent leaders at technology companies to learn about their recruiting process, from founders hiring solo for the first time, to crypto-native recruiting agencies, to in-house heads of talent with dozens of global job postings. Every conversation reiterates the same bleak reality: talent leaders are operating in a world that is both infinitely noisy and deeply competitive. They all know exceptional talent exists somewhere in their extended network, but have no reliable way to find or reach them.
Two specific problems emerged consistently in our interviews:
Talent teams are flooded with fake profiles and AI noise.
One leader said they “largely disregard all inbound applications” given the volume of low-quality or AI-generated resumes. Another opened a role and saw 6,000 applications overnight and 14,000 over the course of one weekend, largely due to new platforms that advertise heavily on TikTok and Instagram, promising thousands of automated resume submissions for their users. At best, these candidates obfuscate signal and waste valuable resources, at worst, these candidates are using carefully crafted, fake identities, often as part of an elaborate network of malicious actors.
Finding the “Golden Egg” candidate still requires lots of guesswork.
Another leader told us “of course everyone wants the top 1%, but I want the top 0.1%.” Hustling for top talent usually means chasing (mostly lukewarm) leads or spending hours of sourcing on LinkedIn, resulting in an arbitrary candidate list with limited insight into what candidates, if any, come recommended by their peers.
Unsurprisingly, every talent leader reported that their highest-converting candidate channel was warm introductions from their networks.
We know that referrals consistently beat other channels on quality, speed, and candidate close rate, but until now, there hasn’t been a way of mapping, searching, and scaling them.
