when i'm not doin' yoga, i have found a new love of running.
the fact that i have to train towards something is motivation to give running a try. something that i have always wanted to do but never had the chance or maybe the reason to do.
when i was approached to do this event, i thought, what a great opportunity & a challenge for me. here i am a non-runner & i'm goin' to do a triathlon, well a part of it anyway.
i'm excited to try a new approach to my training. i'd done the mostly the cross training w/cardio & weight training sessions.
i began yoga by means of rehabilitation for a herniated disk i had suffered. that's really all i've been doin' training wise since i had retired.
the race is 6 months away & i got a trainer assigned to me. i began training w/a trainer & when i started running, i thought it's gonna come easier than it did.
in the beginning, it didn't come at all. i started to think, i'm just not a runner. i just can't do this. i'm really mad at myself because here i am & i can't run.
then it just came, it just started to happen. it's pretty interesting how the whole i can't do this turned into i can do this.
i got so into it that i started reading up on all the running magazines & eating like a runner. it's amazing how it's an entire shift in a fitness regimen.
i'm also deep into my yoga training. since i'm still training for the race i didn't want to let my training get off track. i would do my yoga in the morning, go for a run & do my yoga in the evening.
it's here that i realized that the 2 running & yoga were actually a great compliment. i thought a shift would have to happen, you either had to be a runner or a yogi.

happy thanksgiving
this thanksgiving, i'm reminding myself to pay attention to what's actually here. the people who shows up, the moments that feel good, the small wins that carried me through, the laughter that softens the long days & the courage it took to keep it movin'. it's easy to get stuck on what's missing, but there's so much worth holding close. so today, on thanksgiving, i'm choosing gratitude for health we have, the memories we're makin' & the blessings i didn't always noticed.
berry blast smoothie
1 cup coconut water 1 scoop vanilla vegan protein powder 1/2 cup assorted berries (blackberries, blueberries, cranberries, raspberries & strawberries) fresh or frozen handful spinach
photoshoot prep
this is goin' to be a really fun project! as you can imagine, the preparations for it will be insanely physical. the good thing about gettin' ready for the photoshoot is that i'm able to have a much different training schedule than i do when i'm workin'. in order to look my very best in front of the camera, i have to put myself through an intense, exhausting routine. i did a lot of hot yoga, sometimes twice a day or i would do fasted cardio in the morning & hot yoga in the evening. the other ...
