In the ever-evolving world of digital assets, where art meets real-world impact, few projects capture the essence of community and creativity quite like the "I ❤️ LA" collection. Launched in January 2025 by mmERCH: a web3 fashion and merchandise startup. This charity-driven digital art series brought together seven renowned digital artists to support victims of the devastating 2025 Los Angeles wildfires.
Among the standout contributions is "Larva Labs ❤️'s LA": a minimalist generative artwork from the legendary duo Matt Hall and John Watkinson, behind CryptoPunks, Autoglyphs, Meebits, and the upcoming Quine on Art Blocks. This piece not only embodies Larva Labs' signature code-inspired aesthetic but also serves as an accessible entry point into their portfolio, blending philanthropy with pixelated art poetry.
The "I ❤️ LA" series emerged as a rapid response to the 2025 wildfires that ravaged Southern California, destroying homes and displacing thousands. mmERCH partnered with artists including Larva Labs, Gremplin, Grant Yun, Nice Aunties, Chikai, ClownVamp, and Goyong to create a total of over 2,500 artworks, each themed around love for Los Angeles.
Priced at a modest 0.0069 ETH per mint, or roughly $20 USD at the time, the open-edition drop ran until January 19, 2025, with 100% of proceeds directed to Baby2Baby, a nonprofit providing essential supplies like diapers, formula, and clothing to affected families in Los Angeles.
In just the initial days, the project raised over 17 ETH, equivalent to roughly $56,000 USD at the time, demonstrating the digital art community's swift mobilisation for good.

At the heart of Larva Labs' contribution is a generative design that renders a monochromatic, ASCII-art style "I ❤️ LA" text. Composed of dense clusters of small typographic symbols, dots, lines, crosses on a spark white background. The piece evokes the raw output of early computer code or a digital mosaic. Also known as plotter art in the 1960/70s.
The total edition size is 357 pieces, making it a limited yet attainable run compared to rarer Larva Labs drops like the unique 1/1/512 Autoglyphs created in 2021; or the 77 Protoglyphs released in 2022 in collaboration with PROOF; or, yet again Voxelglyph: a stunning interactive work in an edition of 255 tokens, released for Fingerprints DAO.
Each edition of 'Larva Labs ❤️'s LA' is minted as an ERC-721 token, ensuring provenance and ownership via the Ethereum blockchain, with a super high-resolution PNG image pinned on Arweave.
The artwork's minimalist vibe, borrows the original Autoglyphs' character set, expanding it and exploring, for the first time in years, a completely new and original combination of symbols.
As a result, we have a pristine, yet elegant to display both as a digital collectible or a physical print, artwork that truly speaks the Autoglyphs legacy. Collectors have drawn parallels to Larva Labs' high-value works, noting that "Larva Labs ❤️'s LA" offers a fraction of the cost for a slice of their generative legacy.
The piece has garnered praise within digital art circles, often hailed as a "hidden gem" and an affordable way to own Larva Labs art.
Influential collectors like Cozomo de’ Medici have spotlighted it in newsletters, emphasising its cultural significance tied to real-world relief efforts.
Beyond the aesthetics, the work also symbolises resilience. In a year marked by natural disasters, this artwork reminds us how digital innovation can drive tangible change. As of October 2025, the collection continues to trade modestly, but its true value lies in the funds raised and the conversations sparked about art's role in philanthropy. If you're intrigued, check out the collection on OpenSea or Verse to explore available editions.
