It was a charity hospital and belonged to the Convent of Jesus, to a devotee of Nossa Senhora dos Anjos and, in the 16th century, XVIII, to the Third Order of S. Francisco, which should give a dinner every Sunday to the prisoners in addition to arranging for their release.

It also served as a Parish Church after the 1755 earthquake, due to the ruin of the Church of S. Julião. Used as a stable by the French troops, it was repaired with alms from the population. It was also there for some time, when the Irmandade da Misericórdia was founded in the early 1500s.

This beautiful chapel in honor of Nossa Senhora dos Anjos is currently maintained by the Franciscan Third Order.
Located in the historic area of Setúbal and opposite the Convent of Jesus, it is truly enchanting.
