Its construction must date back to the first decades of the 19th century, with the year 1832 being the most likely date, in the context of the civil war that pitted Liberals against Miguelistas. With a slightly stellated section, with wedge extensions over the angles of a hypothetical square, it had an axial door facing the earth.

Inside, the garrison compartments were adjacent to the northern section, flanking the door, while the south facing side was filled with gunboats. The following year it was already abandoned and in 1868 very ruined, being acquired, four years later, by the Viscount of Gandarinha, who preserved the monument from destruction. Unfortunately, as it was not properly rehabilitated, today only small sections of its walls remain, with no defined reading.
