On December 17, 1982, the Patriarch's decree was published, establishing the Parochial Vicariate of Nova Oeiras, whose patron saint was Santo António de Lisboa, from February 2, 1983 (feast of Our Lady of Purification, patron saint of the parish of Oeiras) (see doc., p. 31).
The name of Santo António as patron saint was approved by a plenary of residents, and, as mentioned in the decree itself, it was suggested by the fact that there is, on Estrada de Santo António, the Chapel of Santo António and the post office is also San Antonio.
The geographical area of the new vicariate included Nova Oeiras and the Quintas do Marquês and das Palmeiras, limited by the railway line, Ribeira da Lage, Estação Agronómica, Sassoeiros, Quinta do Barão and Avenida D. José I (extremes of Carcavelos).

The Parish of Santo António de Nova Oeiras was established on April 14, 1991 and forms, with the Parish of São Julião da Barra, a Pastoral Unit with the same parish priest and deacon at the service of both communities. It has a church, a pastoral centre, a social centre, a multi-purpose hall and two funerary chapels.
The parish of Nova Oeiras seeks to be a welcoming home where the community, as a family, transformed by the Holy Spirit, loves, prays, lives and serves as disciples of Jesus and missionaries of the Gospel.
It has a population of around 8,500 inhabitants, of which around 3,500 are over 65 years old.
