My relationship with Crypto and metaverse timeline.
Living in Florida as a teenager I didn’t grasp the implications of the 2009 crash but it seeded my distrust for the financial establishment. I also started getting hit with $12 bank fees from Bank of America around this time because I was a student and dint meet the min balance requirements. I knew in my gut something was very wrong about this.
First hear of bitcoin in a interactive design graduate level course. I think it is cool but I was far to into 360° Video and interactive storytelling at this time to give it the time it truly deserves. If I could time travel and go back to any day of my life to relay a 3 word message, I would go to this day and I’m sure you know what I would say.
I dive into crypto mostly because the developers I worked with were way over the top into this stuff and saying YOLO was really cool back then. So I bought a spread of terrible coins along with a few well-known, best investment ever, coins. It was around this time I started actually investing in 401Ks so I decided at this point I’m a HODL’er again these seemed like the cool kids so I was fully jumping on the bandwagon.
I literally learned how to buy crypto before I learned what mutual funds were or bought my first stock. I’m sure I’m not the only one #millennials
BURRRRR and Wow I cant believe I listen to these guys.. Whatever I have no choice but to hold at this point. I learn that diamond hands is a thing.. still not happy but I’m stubborn so lets ride this out.
Mostly just sat but also accumulated here and there. Keeping up with the big headlines and being patient.
This is the moment I really ‘got it’ TBH.. for some reason when the meme stocks started blowing up is when it all hit me.. the next generation is going to invest differently because we know understand the 2009 crash, we don’t trust the establishment for good reasons, have no money compared to previous gens, we are digitally native, our remote/on-the-go lifestyle.. the list goes on why this makes sense.
By this time I learned the right way to invest. I set limits, sometimes I even followed those limits. I was very excited to tell people to hedge there portfolios 1-10% with crypto based on their comfort levels. I was closer to 10% at the time.
I bought a quest 2 to be exact, after a long research period (future mirror post). I wanted to jump in the world. I viewed this as a R&D write off for my future. I’m glad I did because that was when Facebook became Meta and everyone jumped on the metaverse train. I started learning all the design tools and how the metaverse and crypto are going to create the player 1 universe. Expanding portfolio cautiously (Winter 2017 vibes creeping) as the market moves higher but aggressively expanding skillsets and web3 knowledge!!!
This year started with the crypto industry tanking. BUT unlike the previous 2017 drop I was ready and happy to ride the wave down. I’ve mostly taken emotions out of it, ok thats a lie but you get what I’m saying.
I realized web3 is in my future and it’s time to fully dive in. They say it takes 10K hours to become a master at anything.
Work in Web3
Try not to be skeptical of web 4.
