UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer asserts Russia must end the war in Ukraine soon and choose the path of peace.

The ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict, now entering its third year, remains a major focus of the international community. UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, in a virtual meeting with leaders from Europe, Australia, New Zealand, and Canada, firmly stated that sooner or later Russia must come to the negotiating table to end the war in Ukraine. Starmer highlighted the importance of diplomatic solutions, emphasizing that President Vladimir Putin cannot indefinitely avoid the peace process.

According to Starmer, only a peaceful solution can end the suffering of civilians and ensure stability in the region. “Sooner or later, Russia must choose the path of peace,” Starmer stated. This call reinforces the UK’s consistent position in supporting a ceasefire for the Ukrainian conflict.

Calls for peace have also come from US President Donald Trump, who urged Moscow to accept a ceasefire deal already discussed by US and Ukrainian delegations at a key meeting in Saudi Arabia. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio added that the next move is in Russia’s hands. The world is watching to see if Putin will truly seize this crucial opportunity to end the war through peaceful negotiations.

Yet, Russia continues to set conditions and raise questions, which many observers see as attempts to stall the peace process. While Putin, in theory, supports a ceasefire, Russia’s cautious stance means the future of any peace agreement remains uncertain.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, in his nightly address, accused Putin of stalling with complex preconditions that make a peace agreement difficult to reach. “Russia keeps delaying, as if never truly ready for peace,” Zelenskyy stated.

To increase pressure, the US has expanded sanctions on Russia’s oil, gas, and financial sectors. This move is intended to push Russia to agree to a ceasefire. Meanwhile, world leaders are discussing continued military and financial support for Ukraine, as well as addressing Zelenskyy’s concerns about security guarantees should a peace agreement be reached.

Tensions in Ukraine are rising as international pressure on Russia grows. Many analysts see a ceasefire as the best solution to minimize casualties and prevent further devastation. Starmer declared that peace must now be the top priority not only for Ukraine but for European and global security as well.
