Last night, I was at a post-Christmas, Christmas party. In Norway, it’s traditional to have that sort of party. My mother’s parents were Norwegian. My great-grandmother came over in the early 1900s. I was able to snag a couple of krumkakes last night and enjoyed the pickled beets.
Many people in my friend group and network are fans of that team up north. The Green Bay Packers. I haven’t heard much from them today. Maybe the bomb cyclone hitting them from Canada has frozen their tongues.
As Bears fans, we are used to abuse from Packer fans. Frankly, in the last twenty years, the Packers have had our number. We Bear fans looked jealously as they transitioned from Brett Favre, to Aaron Rodgers, to Jordan Love. Two Hall of Fame quarterbacks and Jordan Love looks to be very capable.
We hear all about how great Lambeau Field is. We visit, and yes, it is a great stadium. It is a much better stadium than the spaceship they tossed in Soldier Field. You should go once. But, please, skip the Bratwurst pizza.
Bear fans get their ears filled with stories about Super Bowl championships, and while we cannot claim a larger sum of total championships, there is no disputing that the Bears fielded perhaps the greatest team in NFL history when they crushed the entire league (except one bad night in Miami) in 1984-85. Certainly, the most dominant defense in NFL history.
Today, it was kind of nice to go to the NFL site and see this.
The Bears have a very, very challenging game with the 49ers today. Let’s hope the Monsters of the Midway are up to the challenge. But, it was sure nice finding out this morning that they were the champions of the North.
