If you have never filed for office before, it is an interesting experience. In Nevada, you make an appointment online. We made it late in the day. I was calling and emailing people all day.
We went to the courthouse and filed for my candidacy for Nevada State Treasurer. It was a digital experience. All the people running the operation were professional and nice. You walk into a courtroom and hand them $200.
Cash only. No checks. I guess you could do a Cashier’s check, but who does that anymore? It would be good if you could Zelle them, but the problem with Zelle is that the transaction doesn’t clear fast enough.
My wife went with me. We have known each other since 1983, so we do a lot of this stuff together. She helped start up The Policy Circle and has been active in educating women about how to discuss, critically engage, and think about public policy from a free market perspective. If you see us on the trail, ask her about it.
We met a Chicago couple there who were waiting for Democratic Governor Aaron Ford to show up. They moved to Nevada for the weather and the low taxes. I guess it doesn’t register with them which party is for the low taxes. Republicans, of course. At least they were Cub fans.
You fill out an online form. Name, address, and where you want your mail sent. I got a new mailbox at a UPS outlet for campaign mail instead of using my home address. Most campaigns do that. You attest to certain things like residency, and that you are not part of any lawsuits or things like that. I am not part of any lawsuits and have been a resident since 2020, so no biggie.
You also decide how your name will appear on the ballot and on the certificate if you win. My name will appear on the ballot as “Carter, Jeff”. It defaults to your last name.

They were very helpful! I have a campaign phone and email, and for some reason, the number wasn’t going in correctly, so we entered it a couple of times. It finally took. My website is JeffCarterNV.com. Volunteer and donate there. We are getting a ton of emails from people who want to volunteer from all over the state. Donations are coming in, and if you don’t think yours matters, it actually does. Now is the time to get it in because the first reporting is in April. Plus, you get a signed thank-you note from me, no matter how large or small. I am very grateful when people support my campaign team and me.
Everyone hates money in politics, and I do too. The simple fact is, we aren’t getting money out of politics until we shrink the size and scope of government. Limit government influence over everything, and the money will go away.

They notarize the forms, and then swear you in that you are telling the truth.
I decided to file on the very first day. Why? To put to rest any surprises or rumors that I wouldn’t run. There are a lot of people who have said they would endorse me after filing. Now they can.
The other reason I did it early is that Governor Joe Lombardo is filing later, and I didn’t want to steal the spotlight or any thunder from him. Governor Lombardo has to be re-elected. It’s critical. Plus, he’s earned the spotlight.
He’s filing on March 5th. Go to support him.
I met Governor Lombardo in 2020 because one of his best friends was the contractor who helped me rehab my house.
I was happy to see my friend Stavros Anthony filed yesterday for Lt. Governor. He has to be and deserves to be re-elected, too. Other friends I have met across the state also filed for their elections.
Stavros was one of the very first Republicans I ever met when we moved to Nevada. He probably doesn’t remember. We met at the very first Republican event I ever went to in 2020.
This midterm election is indeed a big deal. The reason it is a big deal is because of the polar opposite takes from each political party. Nationwide, the parties are in a dead heat. Why? Because of the bias in the media. If they played it straight at all, this wouldn’t be the case.
Nationally, if the Dems win, they will impeach Trump. Do not stay home if you voted for Trump in the last election. Statewide in Nevada, it’s a big deal because of what the Dems want to do to this state. Without Lombardo vetoing bill after bill, we’d be in a world of hurt. We need right-leaning independents to re-register as Republicans and go out and vote. If you were like me and left a poorly managed state, you shouldn’t sit on the sidelines as an independent. Sitting on the sidelines allowed those states to be poorly managed, and once you lose them, they are very hard to get back.
Stay positive, Republicans. We have the winning ideas, and they are the best chance to create health, wealth, and happiness for everyone. That includes across the world.
The funniest thing that happened yesterday was that as I was walking out, Democratic governor candidate Aaron Ford was walking in. He was by himself. There were about 20 people in union t-shirts in front of the courthouse. I should have taken a photo. You know they were paid to show up.
Lombardo supporters don’t need money to show up. They have passion. Let’s show it on election day.
