Social media started out as mostly a novelty, but much of the consternation in the world today are ripples from traditional media collapsing. We are in the throes of a credibility vacuum. Everything from science to politics to interpersonal relationships is still struggling to adapt to this new paradigm. The tech industry cheered this victory of the individual, but now those same forces are coming for them.
In the last few months crypto and AI have both started to show themselves as extremely potent disintermediation agents. From vibe coding to real world tokenization, these novelties have begun to be taken very seriously. The power is shifting and incumbents are scrabbling to position themselves correctly.
Crypto’s new found power is completely policy driven, but that doesn’t mean it’s any less real. Assets will begin flowing out of traditional institutions at a blistering pace. Crypto is a commodifying force for finance. When the average person can become their own bank in one click, the old guard becomes just another LP.
We have already seen the beginning of AI disrupting the search industry, but with the rise of vibe coding it will be very hard for any software to claim differentiation. SaaS, infra and tooling are all built around a very simple make vs buy equation. That scale has tipped dramatically. When it becomes cheap to roll your own tools to your exact spec, traditional tech has very little to offer.
We are entering the end game for the information age and the world is about to change dramatically. Tech and finance are about to enter a period of rapid deindustrialization as everything commoditizes and society’s center of gravity shifts elsewhere. For builders and people creating value the old moats are dead.
