Most metaverse platforms require significant activity from multiple users in order to justify existing. This can be in the form of metaverse events (such as concerts) all the way to nightlife experiences all the way to gaming.
However, there is a small batch of Earth-based metaverse platforms. These allow for evoking emotions such as curiosity, fascination, exploration, and more - especially if the platform is mapped to all locations on Earth. While not yet ready for places on Earth underwater, inside caves, and other difficult-to-access locations these platforms do permit exploration of Earth and known cities (including landmarks).
Businesses can participate by sponsoring education pieces, even if not in the area. For example, if a local business owner is a fan of something tied to history - then it is possible that the business owner can record a story inside the Earth-based metaverse tied to known landmarks. The cover image on this post is from one of the Earth-based metaverse platforms as seen from the "drone" perspective about 50 feet above a piece of land tied to the battle at Gettysburg (Pennsylvania) during the U.S. civil war.
Content can be added to the business owner's story, even if AI generated. That is because the AI-produced content needs context, so it can be added either outside on specific areas of land or it can be added inside a prebuilt 3D building within that metaverse. The local business owner could be a "sponsor" of the building with the rest of the multimedia being dedicated specifically to the story relevant to that piece of historical land.
Additionally, some Earth platforms also allow for 3D characters (called AI agents). These allow a visitor to the 3D building to interact and ask basic questions, pulling answers from search engines & Wikipedia. A more advanced tactic is to upload text files with questions and answers so that the AI Agent can draw from more specific content to answer building visitors' questions. Some of the platforms even permit the building to have signage above the entrance, so that is where the "sponsoring" of the 3D building could take place with the image being a clickable hyperlink to the business owner's website or other landing page.
Luckily these platforms work on laptops as well as with VR headsets. Over time, more of these platforms will come forward and/or the existing ones will offer more functionality. For example, it is possible that soon one of these platforms will allow people to dive/swim and/or maneuver in a submarine to the location of the Titanic under the water. The NFT owner of the "land" (plot in that specific metaverse) then could add a 3D building underwater with a tour guide + images & videos & audio files going into his/her story tied to the Titanic.
