BOOO: My name is Mili. My han...

If I have to ask for respect,
what is it I’m asking to be?
You say, “be a man.”
then take the ground from under me
What am I meant to stand on?
A leader doesn’t beg for his place;
he loses it the moment he has to.
If I have to ask for respect,
what is it I’m asking to be?
You say, “be a man.”
then take the ground from under me
What am I meant to stand on?
A leader doesn’t beg for his place;
he loses it the moment he has to.

ADAM Just a short poem, on random thoughts and a conversation that happened.
Far out work homie! ✨
Respect asked for is respect already denied … each sentence hits . I’m curious tho , what is Adam ? 69690 🙏🏻
I named this Adam because Adam was the first man. "take the ground from under me" is a play on words because Adam means mankind/humanity, but also means earth/soil. so you take the Adam from under me. meaning you are taking my identity away from me. with no identity, then what do I stand on? So this is from a perspective of a man, who lives in a place where his leadership skills are being stripped away, but a leader is being asked to lead. that oxymoron of wanting something so badly that when it is right there in front of your face you can't see it
Oooh i like that allot
Well put Ren 🤌🏻🖤 These things seem obvious. But when you put them into a poem, it seems that they are not obvious to everyone.
no definitely not so obvious. i had an interaction once with a person who wanted me to run things but then when it came to me running things never let go of the reigns, and then got made because i wasn't running things and consistently put me down because of it, and i told them, i am not going to ask for respect because that means i don't even have it already. there was another incident in a few different relationships i was in and i had to leave. so those were the inspiration for this
Oh yes! I know what you mean, I've had similar situations in my life… I just forgot about them 😅
ADAM examines respect and the pressure to conform to masculine norms, questioning what being asked to be a man really means and what one stands on when the ground is taken away. The piece argues that leadership cannot beg for a place, for that would cause it to be lost. @serenussage
