Welcome to the 6th Edition of the Artist Spotlight! This week’s spotlight is on an artist who lives a double life. A scientist by day, a creator by night! No it is not Batman, but we know him as Chronist. His work pulses with nostalgia, vibrates in neon, and feels like a memory from a future that hasn’t happened yet. So without further ado let’s get to it.
SI:
What is your name? (also your artist handle?)
BRENO:
I can't reveal my real name because I don't want to mix both my careers but you can call me Breno. Most people know me as Chronist.
SI:
Yeah no worries. I totally respect that. You are kind of like Bruce Wyane. You are Batman but no one knows. I’ll keep your secret safe. So Breno, when did you first get into art?
BRENO:
When I was a kid I had an obsession for drawing skeletons, and I got involved in many forms of art over my life. But my debut as a visual artist was in 2023.
SI:
You remind me of me. I always drew skulls and bones as a kid. I don’t know why but it was just so fun. What was the catalyst or moment that pushed you to take it seriously?
BRENO:
Honestly, a burnout from pushing too hard on my career as a scientist. I figured that art was something that I could do for fun and still get the fulfillment of getting something done, so I started to dive deeper into it.
SI:
What themes or ideas tend to show up most in your work?
BRENO:
I like to play with emotions, especially nostalgia, happiness, contemplation, sometimes anger, or even death. I like to make stuff that harness the power of the neon colors to portray emotions in a simple way.
SI:
How would you define your art style (in your own words)?
BRENO:
I would define my style as Neon Retrofuturism, not because it fits a certain category, but because that’s what I feel like I’m trying to make. Bring back a bit of the neon, using novel digital techniques to simulate visuals from the past, while thinking about what the future can be. Neon is the color, emotions are the vessels, retro is the vibe.
SI:
I love that style genre. Neon Retrofuturism I agree really fits what you are doing. How did you discover NFTs, and what made you decide to participate in the space?
BRENO:
Like most people, I started hearing about NFTs in 2020-2021 bull run, but while I had some experience making art already, I thought it didn’t fit the narrative at the time, but kept the idea of making NFT art for the future. In 2023-2024 I had the impression that we would see another surge in the popularity of those, I started to release them, initially on OpenSea, then Zora, and finally on Base. I decided to participate in the space because I like how it has potential to provide fair financial return to artists, since we mostly remove greedy middlemen like Web2 platforms.
SI:
What platform(s) do you primarily use to sell your work, and why?
BRENO:
I have a distinct way to distribute my art, which is more like an experiment. Basically, I use Mint Club to sell the NFTs as “shares” of my core token. Which are fully liquid and can be burned at any time to get part of the tokens back. My idea is to monetize on trading fees, while connecting all my work to my core token, using bonding curves. That way I reduce the risk for those who want to support, while giving token distribution and exclusive art for those who hold the coin and the art. This second part I manage using Glanker Empires.
SI:
What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned as an artist so far?
BRENO:
That consistency is more important than being perfect. That’s why I keep trying to put out new work every week, while always keeping my style.
SI:
What advice would you give to artists who are curious about NFTs but hesitant to jump in?
BRENO:
Show up and make art! If you’re authentic and express yourself, there will always be people interested in your work. Start now and when the market recovers, you will be on top. Find your audience, find your style, and just make more of it.
SI:
Just for fun! What kind of music do you listen to? (pick one genre) And is it the same genre while you are creating?
BRENO:
I would say Rock. 80s,90s, and 00s, mostly. I listen to my favorite bands from when I was a teen, every day! To create, I have a strategy: first, I create the music that I will add as the soundtrack, and then I keep listening to it on repeat while making the visuals. Like this, I make sure that they are matching and the song’s vibes infuse within the video.
Chronist’s story is a reminder that creativity doesn’t always start with a grand plan. Sometimes it starts with exhaustion, curiosity, and the need to feel something again. From drawing skeletons as a kid to building a fully tokenized art ecosystem. Chronist is blending emotion, technology, music, and market mechanics into one cohesive vision. Neon isn’t just his color palette. It’s the philosophy of showing up, staying consistent and creating with authenticity.

of course homie! you know it is all about giving credit where credit is due, and showing up and showing out for the people especially artist in the web3 space. It isn't something that is given everyday, a lot of the time art in the web3 sector gets overlooked by trading and meme coins. So showing love to the ones that make the web3 art world go 'round!
Thank you so much, you're absolutely right. I don't claim we make better content, but I wish one day more people who genuinely care about the art join the space.
Wonderful Chronist!!! So great my frens 👏👏👏🔥🔥🔥🖤
Yeah it is so awesome to see some great artist given the spotlight! thanks so much for giving it a read!
