Farcaster 2026: Growth Is About People, Story, & Onboarding
This post is taking part in the Farcaster 2026 writing contest organized by Kiwi News & sponsored by Purple DAO How can Farcaster amp up its marketing and growth activities to acquire new users? A lot has happened since this prompt was offered by the contest in the middle of January! This past week alone would require a rewrite of the answer. I want to suggest that there isn’t an exact script, but the roadmap is wrapped up in people, story, and onboarding. Farcaster Growth Is About People The...

I've talked to a few people struggling to find their way on Farcaster over the last couple of months & wanted to give them an illustration of life here. And I wanted it to not only explain it, but also give them something to feel.
I like the Singapore illustration--low population, high GDP--but it's hard to feel. So, I've told them that Farcaster is like a group settling a new frontier. To me, this captures the positive-sum nature of Farcaster. How does a group of people settle a new world? People find their roles in serving the greater good and serving the existence of the village.
It seems the people who have found their way on Farcaster have found their role in supporting the village. A new settlement needs governing. Here, that's the Farcaster team, especially @dwr.eth & @v . It needs economic support & development. That's a bigger list, but especially @jacek , @srijan.eth , & @deployer for the overall economy. Then there are projects like @betrmint (@toadyhawk.eth) & @crowdfund (@nicholas) that focus on certain categories of the economy. The village needs 'spiritual' or moral help like @july .
But it needs all kinds of people...
The village needs poets & writers like @arjantupan @danicaswanson & @pichi . It needs peacekeepers & social facilitators like @ted . It needs town criers like @nounishprof & @adrienne .
We even have entertainment with @bracky (@tldr), MiniWord, & others. We have our pets that the whole village love-- @bertwurst.eth , Toby (@treegirl), & @everydaybailey ... among many others who appear on the Timeline.
And along with these more official roles, the village needs lots of support from 'regular people.' People who are supportive, encouraging, & look out for and build up others. Settling a new world is hard. And the 'regular people' often determine the overall morale. You might find an official role, but if not, you are still crucial to the success of Farcaster.
The point of my illustration to this person was to help them feel that the way to find your place on Farcaster is to serve the village--to do something that helps the good of what's happening here.
That's how I found my place & call this settlement home. I dabbled, but eventually took something I like & am good at & filled a need (in a small way) to serve the village.
I don't know if the illustration helps people who are struggling & wanting to give up on Farcaster. I don't know if it's even the right illustration for Farcaster, but it made me 'feel' what it looks like to find your place here.

My /firstdraft this week is this @paragraph working out my analogy of Farcaster as settling a new world and finding your place by serving the village. Casting in the /firstdraft channel after posting it as a TBA experiment this morning (Sorry if you saw it already, required to cast in the channel) https://paragraph.com/@bradq.eth/the-farcaster-settlement

I really love this analogy, Brad. To me, it also illustrates the spirit of experimentation that is so vibrantly active here. The spirit of people looking to create new norms, new traditions, new systems, because the old ones no longer worked. There is a strong culture of supporting new initiatives here. And of course, there are the opportunists, the bandits, the pirates, who we need to be aware of. That also comes with settling in uncharted territory. I think we are handling that reasonably well. Great post, Brad. Loved reading it. 100 $tipn 73 $degen
well said! thank you!
What happens when your first coined post in TBA is your first coined article in @paragraph ? Let’s find out… I fleshed out & updated my own analogy of what we are doing as settling a new world, and finding our place here is best done by serving the needs of ‘the village.’ Whether a leader or supportive community member, this is how we build this new world. cc: & thanks to @jesse.base.eth & @colin for creating tools to support creators
Struggling to navigate Farcaster? @bradq shares an insightful illustration likening it to a new frontier. It reveals how contributing to the village helps individuals find their roles. Success comes from serving the community and uplifting others, making everyone’s support essential in this journey.

@colin when I click read, I can't see the support grid with the 3 options etc...is that just because it's mine or did the coining part not work correctly? Thanks.
You described it well and I completely understood what you meant. 117 $DEGEN
