I believe blockchain is an ideal platform for real-money gaming. And all such games should ultimately live on it — including lottery games. Although earlier attempts, most noticeably PoolTogether, have been made and faltered, I think it's time to revisit this category due to the recent advancement of blockchain infrastructure and friendlier change of the regulatory environment. That's what attracts me to Megapot.
Megapot aims to be the world’s largest blockchain-powered lottery protocol. Unlike traditional lotteries, where initial liquidity comes from 'the house' — a limited group of exclusive entities — Megapot allows anyone globally to contribute the liquidity to the prize pool, earning fees or yields from ticket sales in return.
Megapot is hiring. Scroll to the bottom for the openings.
Past successes in DeFi have revealed three key insights:
How effortlessly capital can be pooled globally when incentives align.
How cost-efficient a well-built decentralized protocol on the blockchain can be.
How transparent and permissionless this technology is, attracting developers to the ecosystem.
If you apply these three insights to Megapot, here is a picture I am seeing:
Global Capital Access: The ability to tap into worldwide liquidity could create the largest lottery prize in history. Bigger jackpots drive ticket sales—what’s more enticing than a $1 billion prize? A $10 billion jackpot.
Low Operating Costs: Minimal overhead means more room to boost the prize pool, improve odds, or outshine competitors—further fueling ticket sales.
Open Developer Ecosystem: A permissionless protocol lets third parties integrate Megapot into their applications. Imagine every mobile game adding a sweepstakes or lottery feature to engage users—yet another boost to ticket sales.
When a lottery can always sell enough ticket to match its odds, the liquidity providers are assured profits and high yields.
Beyond the product’s potential, what truly excites me is the chance to work with Megapot’s founder, Patrick Lung. Our paths crossed at Uniswap in 2022, when the startup he worked for and mine were both acquired. Over the next year, I had the privilege of watching Patrick refine his ideas before landing on Megapot. Each time we caught up, I was struck by his relentless progress—he’s an unstoppable force.

To build a serious gaming business, the Megapot team will eventually need to address regulatory challenges. In the U.S., iGaming lacks a federal regulatory framework, requiring operators to secure licenses state-by-state—often through partnerships with local casinos or tribes. It’s a complex process, but a navigable one. Fortunately, as a protocol, Megapot benefits from third-party applications in more iGaming-friendly regions, which face fewer hurdles when building on top of it.
Megapot’s seed round (yet to be announced) was fiercely competitive, forcing me to reduce my usual investment size just to secure a spot. Still, I’m thrilled to join Patrick on this journey of bold experimentation. If Megapot excites you as much as it does me, they’re currently building a founding team—now’s the time to get involved!
