Weekly I Ching - August 27 2023
PreambleIt feels like the pressure is on, and just when we need to rise to the occasion, exhaustion sets in. This is fated for all of us from time to time; it cannot be avoided. The Book of Changes tells us that one who lets their spirit be broken by exhaustion certainly has no success. Sometimes, all we can seek to do is to overcome a problem inwardly, in preparation to act outwardly at a more favourable time. Those who cultivate this inner approach to problem solving, without falling into m...

Weekly I Ching - November 9 2025
SummaryThe reading for this week is favourable. Abundance comes naturally, and those who understand the responsibility that comes with it are best fitted to maintain it. Reach for your goals, trust the competency of friends, and enjoy this time of harmony. The I Ching specifically gives us the image of a wagon this week. My interpretation is thus: when preparing for a large task or journey, we must be ready to set out with the supplies needed to ensure success. The wagon can safely handle a h...

Weekly I Ching - August 20 2023
PreambleWhen turbulence comes, there is often an instinctual response to tense up, and harden against whatever challenges us. There are times when this is helpful, and serves well. There are also situations where this is exactly the opposite of what’s best. The superior individual discerns this difference and instead relaxes, moving instead to dissolve divisions and negativity. This is one of those moments. Any coming adversity or challenge may tempt you toward aggressive, focused action. Do ...

The light rises, and as the morning sun gets stronger it clears the horizon. Now in full view, the day asserts itself. Heaven and Earth seem to meet.
Our hexagram today, T’ai, channels that image. It is one of peace, and a clear progression from the previous situation of Fu, which had a single yang line at its base. Now the light has risen to the third line. This is a time of harmony and prosperity, which is hopefully felt where you are. Use this time both for enjoyment, and as opportunity to try to understand why the current harmony is here. Perhaps lessons can be drawn from it that will serve us in future.
1st: 5,4,4 > Stable Yang
2nd: 5,4,8 > Stable Yang
3rd: 5,8,4 > Changing Yang
4th: 5,4,8 > Stable Yin
5th: 5,4,8 > Changing Yin
6th: 5,8,4 > Stable Yin
The hexagram for this week is T’ai, Peace.

Above: K’un, Earth
Below: Ch’ien, Heaven
Peace. The small departs, The great approaches. Good fortune. Success.

2 lines are in change this week, in the third and fifth places. The third line reminds us that whilst good fortune is with us now, all things are subject to change.
No plain not followed by a slope. No going not followed by a return.
In this way, we are reminded of the Dao’s unending process of change. Only by keeping our inner nature above the external rhythms of fortune and decline do we rise above fate.
The fifth line, which is a yin line, emphasises the value in modest action. Think of how someone of higher rank still listens to the requests of someone they love. This is what will be rewarded with good fortune.
None this week.
Blessings to you all.
