Yes, I do.
Listen, here’s the thing... 💛
We´re all wired not to disappoint people—especially not authority figures.
How do we know? In 1963, the Milgram Obedience Experiment showed that 65% of people kept shocking someone just because an authority figure told them to—even when they could see that the person receiving the shocks was in extreme pain.
So... we go to extreme lengths to not disappoint people, especially authority figures. (Which is why some people live their whole life trying to impress a parent, often even after their parent has passed away.)
Are we fucked?
I don’t think so.
I disappoint tons of people—but the only thing is I’ve decided who(!) I disappoint.
I can’t decide whether or not I’m going to disappoint anyone... but I can decide who I’m willing to disappoint and who I want to impress. 💛
If we stay on autopilot our whole life, we’ll only try to impress the ones closest to us: our parents and the authority figures in our lives. 🌙
The problem? A lot of the time, we don’t really want their lives—and then it’s simply stupid to try to impress them, because you’ll end up living their dream life—not your dream life.
The solution? Pick who you want to impress, and every time you do something, ask yourself: Would (insert the person you look up to) be impressed by this? 💭
Keep doing that until you’re living your dream life.
Because I’ve come to the realization that I’m okay with disappointing everyone—except:
Me
My role models
And my life is shhhhining 💫
💭 Life update:
I feel like I always start these sections saying, “there’s a lot going on,” but I promise you—there’s a lot going on.
Cool thing: I signed a client this week! I’m super excited to start working with her.
My book? It’s been so hard this week, but a hack I´ve found: instead of writing on my computer, I go outside and write in my journal instead—feels so much better. ✍
My emotional life? Listen, I’m gonna be honest... there´s so much going on professionally, so I know I´m not fully in touch with all my emotions this week.
They say "pick your poison," and I´ve picked mine: work.
Some want me to change, but I´m not sure if I want to.
I love the hustle, I love the grind, so I let myself hustle and grind ✨
Ok friend, that´s it for today - Have a beautiful day. 💛
