Yes, I do.
Listen, hereās the thing... š
WeĀ“re all wired not to disappoint peopleāespecially not authority figures.
How do we know? In 1963, the Milgram Obedience Experiment showed that 65% of people kept shocking someone just because an authority figure told them toāeven when they could see that the person receiving the shocks was in extreme pain.
So... we go to extreme lengths to not disappoint people, especially authority figures. (Which is why some people live their whole life trying to impress a parent, often even after their parent has passed away.)
Are we fucked?
I donāt think so.
I disappoint tons of peopleābut the only thing is Iāve decided who(!) I disappoint.
I canāt decide whether or not Iām going to disappoint anyone... but I can decide who Iām willing to disappoint and who I want to impress. š
If we stay on autopilot our whole life, weāll only try to impress the ones closest to us: our parents and the authority figures in our lives. š
The problem? A lot of the time, we donāt really want their livesāand then itās simply stupid to try to impress them, because youāll end up living their dream lifeānot your dream life.
The solution? Pick who you want to impress, and every time you do something, ask yourself: Would
Keep doing that until youāre living your dream life.
Because Iāve come to the realization that Iām okay with disappointing everyoneāexcept:
Me
My role models
And my life is shhhhining š«
š Life update:
I feel like I always start these sections saying, āthereās a lot going on,ā but I promise youāthereās a lot going on.
Cool thing: I signed a client this week! Iām super excited to start working with her.
My book? Itās been so hard this week, but a hack IĀ“ve found: instead of writing on my computer, I go outside and write in my journal insteadāfeels so much better. ā
My emotional life? Listen, Iām gonna be honest... thereĀ“s so much going on professionally, so I know IĀ“m not fully in touch with all my emotions this week.
They say "pick your poison," and I“ve picked mine: work.
Some want me to change, but I“m not sure if I want to.
I love the hustle, I love the grind, so I let myself hustle and grind āØ
Ok friend, thatĀ“s it for today - Have a beautiful day. š
