On Saturdays, I often go to Miami Beach.
It takes just seven minutes by bike to reach the artwork of nature. I sit there, doing nothing but zoning out, reading a book, taking a nap, or listening to music.
But the ocean is not always just “beautiful.” Sometimes, when dark gray storm clouds fill the sky and strong winds push the waves into something fierce, the ocean feels like a reflection of the worries and concerns swirling inside us.
The ocean shows us both sides—hope and uncertainty. When the sunlight shines brightly, making the waves sparkle like diamonds, everyone feels happy. But what really matters is when the storm comes.
As Napoleon Hill said in his book Think and Grow Rich, nature—or maybe God—has given us the only thing we can truly control: our mind. When the waves rise, do we accept them and ride along? Or do we fight, believing we can “win” or “avoid” them? The answer depends on how we treat our minds.
That choice decides whether we become captains, holding onto the sail and continuing our journey, or just pieces of wood, drifting wherever the waves take us.
Investing is the same. One day the sun is bright, then suddenly it rains. The next day, a storm hits, and sometimes, even sharks appear. In those moments, it’s important not to let our minds be thrown around by every change. Instead, we should dive deep into the ocean (I hope my PADI license helps!) and find what is solid and unshakable. At night, we should look up to the sky and follow our own North Star.
With passion, belief, and persistence, we will eventually reach our own new world—just like Columbus did. And in the end, in this vast ocean of life, what kind of sailor we become is up to us.
